Has anyone ever shipped their trike from Virginia to Sanford Florida on the Amtrak auto train? If so how much was it? Its not on their website and the wait is 30 minutes on the phone. I know I should ride it but I thought the train might be an experience.
i think i put this in the wrong place . i am trying to figure out trike talk!

I priced it once about 6 years ago and at that time they charged the same rate as a car because it takes up as much room.

Thanks for the reply. I called Amtrak customer service And was on hold for 58 min before I hung up. I had it on speaker phone while working on a spreadsheet. šŸ˜‚ otherwise I would have hung up a lot sooner. I think I will plan a nice ride home through the Smoky and the Blue Ridge mountains.

Go to their site and enter your departure date - all of the prices will come up.

I just looked - motorcycles are $155. Per person seating goes from $170 up to $700 - depending on if you want a room, etc.

Sorry Brian, looks like you may be SOL putting the trike on the Autotrain. From their website:

Factory-model two-wheeled motorcycles are accepted on the Auto Train. Can-Am motorcycles, Rewaco trikes and Polaris Slingshots are not permitted.
  • Maximum length: 102 inches
  • Maximum height: 72 inches
  • Maximum width: 51 inches
  • Ground clearance: 5+ inches
  • Tire maximum: 7 inches wide, 2 1/2 inches deep

It does mention those specific 3 wheeled vehicles as prohibited but it does list trikes could be authorized under "Special Vehicles" and requires a phone call prior to booking.

I just got off the phone with Amtrak. They said no trikes. Their loading tracks aren’t set up for a trike wheel pattern,
Thanks for letting us know. We have been c0nsidering this.

Still, I find it hard to believe that they will not carry a trike. The ferries we use here in Michigan carry then without any issues.

I find it hard to believe especially since folks have said the moved their trike on the auto train. I pushed the issue and my customer service rep kept working it with her supervisor. Final answer nope.
