Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

Was wondering if I need to keep mine from the deluxe since the TG has the plactic deflectors beside the seat?

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

Those plastic things aren't worth crap. If you have a Capt'n Itch Crotch Cooler, you need to keep it and put it on the TG. If you don't have the one from the Capt'n, then you need to get one ASAP! It takes away tons of heat. Highly recommend!

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

I agree with TNTriker, just leave the plastic ones on and put the Capt'n Itch Cooler over them.

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

I put mine on over the plastic ones because I had lights mounted on the stock ones. I not sure if the deluxe model Capt Itch fits the triglide. The stock ones are worthles except to hold some lizzard lights

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

KEWL, I emailed Larry and he said if it didn't fit, but call him. He and Isabelle live within 50 m iles of me and its a nice ride to their home. So, road trip may be needed when I get the bike.

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

Well, here you go. It fits good, it works good and it will fit on right over the stock plastic ones and I'm running the Road Zeppelin seat now and it works with it. I've been running mine for some time now and I love it.

thanks Sam, I have mine from the Deluxe, I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will work on the TG. If not, I can sell it on another forum and get most of my cost back and then order a new one from Isabelle and Larry. I know a guy who has a hack and he even bought one recently with the HD skull and crystals, looks great on his HD with Side Car.

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

I looked around for something to use and I found this.

Shamrock Auto Trim

I have had it on for a little over a year and I think it works great (I do not own the company or know the people who do.)

It was easy to install ... just take the seat off, put it in place and put the seat back on.

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

Those look nice, is it a easy install ? Much to it ?

Nothing to it Marv1, just pull the seat off, slip the cooler over the seat tang and put the seat back on. Cap't Itch is a sponsor on this board, look for their ad and give Isabel a call. They have a lot of different designs on their web site so take your time and pick the one for you. You might even ask about a set of these also.....I got them to make me Mud Flaps to match the Crotch Cooler.

Sam

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

Sounds easy enough. Mudflaps look great. I assume drill two holes and mount . Was mounting hardware included also ? thanks

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

The mud flaps look wonderful! :)

Yes 2 holes, but no hardware with the mud flaps. I was an idiot and had the HD mud flaps installed before I picked up the trike, they were not very effective so I went this route. I used the HD hardware (2 bolts) on these.

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

I had a local leather lady make up a custom designed set that I designed. They have a cut out arounf the side panels so the paint doesn't get rubbed off. I also designed it so the bottom is more paralel with the ground - looks alot better to me. The lady used leather with some material she uses to make aprons for foundry workers sandwiched between. She also used velcro to attach each side under the seat in case I ever have to re-adjust them for another bike.

I can't wait for some really hot weather to see how they work. ThumbUp
I call mine thigh coolers instaed of crotch cooler because it's my thighs not my crotch that gets all burned up. :AGGHH: :D

I took off the plastic deflectors because they made the leather ones stick out too far.

Captain Itch and Isabel will also custom make their cooler's for people. Their Cooler's have a soft backing that will not damage paint. I've been using one for over two years now and when I take it off in the winter theres no marks from where it sit's. They do protect your thigh area as well as keep the seat cooler. They have great quality product's that are designed well. IMO

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

I have no doubt the Captain's product is first rate. Not saying otherwise.
It took 3 trips to get all the curves and angles just right and all for under $70. I'm sure it would have been much more costly and time consuming for the good Captain to do a one off custom like that.

The foundry material swayed me. :D

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

Ordered a crotch cooler on Wednesday and had on my bike by Friday to match my black pearl mustang seat. Really has made a big difference in the heat issues I was having. Isabelle told me to take original plastic off that the leather would form better

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

Received the Capt Itch crotch cooler Saturday morning about 10 minutes before leaving on a 200+ mile trip for a memorial ride. Works great. And it makes me realize that I did things backwards in dealing with my heat problems. Installed SE breather and Rush mufflers ( on the dealers recommendation ) Had no effect on felt heat on back of right thigh. Added PC V with no effect on heat, but it does run much better. Gutted header (again on dealers recommendation ) with the only result being better sound and worse mpg. To date have tried 3 different programs to the PC V with mixed results on mpg and no effect on felt heat. Pulled lower fairings and installed highway pegs. This gave me some relief at highway speeds but was still cooking my thigh in traffic. I would have been better off to try the Crotch cooler first as it works better than any of the other "fixes".

In fact, the two best mods to my trike to date, came from this forum. The Crotch Cooler and the rear lift kit.

This is why they say hindsight is 20/20. LOL I agree 100% with you, althought my trike is pretty much stock. I have Xied's fuel management, Arlen Ness Big sucker a/c, and Jackpot mufflers. Ron and I have been recommneding the Capt'n Itch CC for over two years now, because they work. There is one thing I might suggest, and this is something you can do yourself. Ron bought from the hardware store stuff to move the floorboards out about an inch. This will help a little with the heat, with very little cost. I might add that my mpg is 42.2. We have some dear friends that live in Monroe, LA.

Easy?? I just spend an hour wrestling with my seat to get that cooler on. Yea, I did it. And I didn't drop the seat screw. That will work. Mine was on my 2011 Deluxe that I traded in. Gotta recycle when you can!! Camera flash washed out the leather, Lexol on hand to make it look better.

Re: Anyone using the Crotch Cooler on top of those plastic deflectors?

I can see how these things will help with the heat on your thighs. My concern is restricting the venting of the heat away from the motor.

I have made spacers and bought hardware to spread the floor boards. Going to hold off till I ride with the Capt Itch CC a little more. Saturday was a record high temp and I had no heat at all. My best mpg to date is 26.5. I would kill for 42.2. LOL

You don't have to worry about the motor not getting enough air with these CC's. Where they do the most good is when you are sitting at a stoplight and slow moving traffic.

The main reason I put the 1" floorboard extender's on, they give you more use of your floorboards as well as getting your foot a little farther from the hot headpipe. Makes cleaning the lower section of the headpipe easier too.
Only drawback for me on my RK, they scrape easier in the twisties. I can remedy that, I just take my time!

Me too!!! I'm getting same as you nearly all the time. I did learn something about Big Blue on a trip to Bakersfield and back last week. I didn't want to deal with the buttheads who travel the CA-99 so I used the CA-43. Granted it's only 55mph versus 70mph. But I got 32 mpg while going 58-60 mph. Any time I've had Big Blue under 63 mph, I get near 30 mpg. To reinforce the theory, I had to make a speedrun to and from Fresno yesterday, going 75mph both ways when possible. Big Blue got 23 mpg. You folks make me feel a little better as I'm getting around 26-28mpg at 70-75mph & around 30mpg at under 60mph. That's on a 2012, all stock w/Reinhart slip-ons.
My girlfriends 2010 is getting 32-34mpg w/stage 1 a/c, SE slip-ons & sepst.
Difference in 32 to 30 tooth sprocket??? or tuning???

Hey AZ, I know exactly what my problem is. Aerodynamics AND gravity:D:D:D I weigh 250 lbs. That's got to be costing me about 3 or 4 mpg.:Trike1:
