Anyone else using the SS recleanable oil filter on TG?

Hey!

I have a 2016 TG with well over 19000 miles currently......and change oil every 2500 miles (b4 with new filters, currently will be cleaning SS filter mesh screan)

.......a couple thousand miles ago or so, I switched from std HD oil filters to the SS screened (35 micron) recleanable filter and I "REALLY, REALLY" like the instant filtered oil flow on start up, ect.

........I like the cooling rings on the Aluminum body and the nice 17mm nut design on the outside casing allowing easy removal of filter.

..........Have taken filter off a couple of times after 1000 mi. or so just to reclean and examine the ss screen mesh...........each time, the screen appears perfectly clean with only some black smudge collected on the internal magnet inside.

....I have studied for hours all of the pro's and cons of using or NOT using this type of oil filter..........I have heard all the info....I mean "ALL!"

......I think the advantages of using this type filter outweighs the disadvantages..........BUT I don't know that for sure.

......I post this only to ask 2 things:

Do any of Ya'll use this type of filter and for how long have you used it? (the different reputable brands seem basically all the same)

.......AND has anyone ever actually experienced (for certain) any damage to engine caused by using this type of oil filter?

Thanks!

I've ridden over 300k miles using this type filter. I've used them exclusively on 6 of my personal bikes. This is over the last 12 years (which is when I first became aware of them).

I've found the same thing you have...there are several companies making different housings, but everything I've seen, they are all using the same filter element inside...the only difference is the housings.

You can see more details on them HERE.

I don't think you will find anyone who's experienced any damage from one, as there does not appear to be any way that use of these filters can cause damage.

Hey Kevin!

...well this post has been up nearly 1 full day now and "NO BODY" has replied with any actual damage engine report!!!!!!

....but when this subject is researched on net you find pages and pages of opinions re. use or don't use the SS screened oil filters for various reasons....It seems it is as I thought, they are opinions only! (now some say they have used them and eventually went back to stock filters and so on and so forth and vice-versa - but none that I found actually stated to have "his personal engine damaged from prolonged use of these newer modern SS mesh oil filters."

..........I purposely didn't mention any brand names of SS oil filter so as not to skew preferences in any way.

..........anyway, I'm gonna keep using mine as I think its awesome! (maybe its my imagination but my oil pump and engine appears to really like it.....seems like the oil pressure is more stable)

.....now all of the different major brands out there are likely perfectly fine, I'm sure.

..........Mine is the Outlaw High Performance Oil Filter from DKCustom Products and it is very well made!!!!

Cheers!

I've used the K&P Engineering reusable filter on 3 different bikes. It's the same as the S&S system. Never had a problem. I clean mine about every 2000 miles. No bearing or engine problems over 150K miles.
