hello trike world i would like to know of any v-rod trike owners willing to discuss the negative as well as the positive features regarding v-rod trikes i ride a 03 v-rod motor trike and while i am very happy i would like to explore options,modifications etc regards joe sydney australia

Hi there, v rod! Yes, we have a few v-rod trikes on here, and those of us who have one do love them. I certainly do love mine! It is an '09 V-rod that was converted to a trike for me at the Hannigan factory last winter (link to photos above).

V-rods DO have some aspects that made it a little more difficult to "fit" to my petite size comfortably. Simply because Harley sells fewer of them, and because the 2-wheel v-rod is usually ridden more as a sport bike than a cruiser, there are fewer accessory options available to change things out.....but where there is a will, there is a way!

1. The "Reach Seat" moved me a little closer
   
2. The "Reach controls" brought the shifter and brake about an inch closer to me.
   
3. Only foot pegs are available, and my short legs needed to be able to adjust position a bit more than that on a longer ride. I found floor boards from Kuryakyn that attached where the pegs were, and they made the difference!
   
4. V-rod handlebars are all one piece and risers/pull backs cannot be added. I know a custom show bike builder who built me made-to-measure handlebars to ease the stretch in my shoulders and back….PERFECT!
   
5. I missed the heel/toe shift that I used for years on the Fat Boy. Again, my custom friend quickly and easily fabricated a beautiful, one-piece shifter for me with the same dimensions as the "reach control" so it fits me perfectly.
   
6. While I LOVE the look and handling of the Hannigan kit for the V-rod, its emphasis is on sleek lines so there is only a small trunk space and nowhere to attach a stock sissy bar so packing for trips was difficult! Again, my custom friend listened to my ideas and perfectly designed and built a wonderful sissy bar for me to secure my duffle.
   

Note that the custom-built items he made me were very reasonable in price, and actually saved me a few $$ over what it would have cost me to order them from the HD catalog!

I did make a point of purchasing a V-rod that had the 5 gallon gas tank, and I am glad I did!

Mike and I love road trips, and as the trike's powerful engine does like to drink that fuel, with the smaller tank I would have been stopping all the time!

hi nana it is great to see another v rod trike yours looks awesome and i think getting the modification tailor made for yourself was a good idea i have only met one other v rod trike owner and that was at sturgis in 2011 but unfortuneatly for me i lost their contact details the fact it took me eighteen months of red tape to import and meet australian compliance regulation i dont expect to bump into many v rod trikes in my part of the world regards joe shaw

Not a lot of V-Rod trikes around, but ever since I first saw a V-Rod trike I thought they looked better as a 3 wheeler than a bike. Nana's is just stunning - pictures don't do it justice.
As far as custom add-ons, as I tell my wife when she asks me it we can do something on the trike: "Where there's a will there's a way where there's dollars."

Weeeeeellllll..... it kinda depends on if I am behaving or not. :Angel:

If I stay under 60 mph, I do quite well despite the git-up-and-go the V-rod is set up with. But it is so easy to let that git-up-and-go kick in on the highway!!!!! LOL!

I'd say I probably get 30 - 34 mpg in general. It isn't quite as good as I got with the Fat Boy trike, but it definitely has more pick up than the Fat Boy did also. I think you lose a bit of MPG when you choose the power.

Nana, First that is a really nice looking trike you have there. It really looks good in that color combo. ThumbUp

Second, looking at the photo below have you thought about putting a rack on that area just behind the seat? I'm not sure if you can but it just jumped out at me for a rack.

I have an '04 with a 09 motor trike conversion on it and LOVE it. I am a 43-year-old guy was not quite ready for the Triglide but needed to have a Harley. I love my V-Rod trike and ride it daily. Right now it has just over 17,000 miles on it

Well, i am in the process of buying and picking up a 2006 Streetrod trike. i'm very excited about it and hopefully will have more to contribute after i've been able to ride it! i've attached the picture from the dealer. cheers! michele
