American chrome

As a British rider of American metal (and I just love Harley's to bits) I'm having difficulty in understanding why whenever I buy anything chrome plated from America it blisters and peels within weeks of landing on the shores of England. I've treated my Harley Electraglide trike to hundreds of presents over the years (well you do, don't you) most of them have been chrome plated and just about all have failed in some form or other very quickly. On the other hand, whenever I've bought myself something chromed in England, it seems to last and endure the British rain a whole lot better. Why is this? Is the chroming process different on the US side of the pond or is it simply that I've been unlucky. I can never resist the Kuryakyn stand at Daytona and have spend many hours and even more pounds (or dollars) on bits and pieces only to remove them within weeks and my garage is littered with blistered and peeling artifacts.

I don't have the same choice of spares over here so I tend to buy my spares and parts when I'm over in the USA on my regular vacations. I just wish I could buy something which lasts a bit longer. Can anybody tell me where I'm going wrong before I completely bankrupt myself and get myself an ex-wife (now there's a thought)

Happy triking to all - Regards from Preston, UK

I am with you mate. The chrome from Kuryakyn is absolutly dreadful. Add on seem to be a little better. I have spent hundreds of pounds on chrome only to get shot of it a second hand on ebay.
If someone can come up with great chrome products and not the s...e from Kuryakyn then maybe we will save some money in the long run:groan:

Even living in the USA, I'm not real fond of the "K-Company" Products myself. Ridin' 30,000 to 40,000+ miles per year, my Bikes see a lota' rain, salt, etc., etc. .......I've had Great Luck with RIVCO Products personally..........if You can't locate Them, I'll try to find a LINK.....;)

If you are buying Harley Chrome, then very little, if any at all, is made in America. I hate to burst you bubble but Harley's chrome comes mostly from oriental and Asian countries!
As a matter of fact a lot of the "parts" that make up the "American" icon are all imported.
Check the fine print, you'll have to hunt for it, on the box your chrome comes in and you will find the country of manufacture.
