I realize the answers on this may vary greatly, but how often do you folks replace the air filter on your GL 1800. I think Honda recommends every 12,000 miles but that seems excessive. It isn't the easiest item to do on an 1800, so that is why I'm wondering how often you folks find that you need to perform the service. Thanks in advance.:)

I did mine the first time at 12K. I never ride on dirt roads, so it was a waste of time. Filter was still very clean. I did it the second time at about 50K, then it needed it.

I'll add this to it also. Factor in how you store your bike. If you store in a barn/shed/etc you should probably at least check it at the beginning of the riding season. I can't tell you how many times I've seen bikes with layers of insulation, crud, and even dead mice on top of the air filter (seems to be a popular nesting place for them, especially in winter).

I ride pretty much all year around so mice in the air box has never really worried me. That said, the first time I changed air filter on my 2001 GL1800 (around 30,000 miles) I did remove the mesh from the filter and wrapped the air intakes. Here I a picture. I have done this to the '06 and now '15 GL1800 as well with absolutly ZERO ill effects. Never hurts to have a little insurance.. :D
