Aftermarket pipes on Honda GW conversion?

I want help with whether it is a wise idea to add on aftermarket pipes on a GW conversion to get a nicer sound. Would Big Louie pipes be worth considering as an add-on?? Comments please.

Zany there was a GW at the Eureka rally this summer that was running straight pipes. Definitely a deeper & louder sound for cheap.

I had straight pipes installed just before heading out to L.A, for the Run to the Wall in May. We did almost 7000 miles before getting home. The biker ran fine. No observed difference in performance or mpg. Sounds a deeper tone. But like a sports car under power. I like it. Some folks don't. A personal choice I guess.

Cyber vet and I are on the same page. I like the straight pipe design. And like kwput said CHEAP. Mine cost $100.00. Just had the local muffler shop put 2 1/2" pipes on it with chrome slash cut tips. I wanted the old school look and that's what I got.
There are a couple of recent threads discussing this very thing so you have lots of opinions and input from other riders.

I might toy with the idea of doing the same thing. We'll see,,,. :cxtv:

Go for it my friend. Not a great deal of money, not like buying Cobra or some other brand say 5 or 6 hundred dollars.
Just go for it and enjoy the ride.

I'm a little gunshy doing that, have heard others say a GW sounds ugly when you make it loud. They sound so good quiet, truthfully I'm not sure if I could stand riding a loud bike again.

It's loud like a Porsche.
There are so many cylinders firing so fast that there isn't a loud sound like a V twin. It is more of a smooth sound of a machine gun except not as loud.
It has a lot the same sound as my Royal Star Venture with Road King mufflers on it.

Sound goes up HP goes down. Having 110 hp it won't hurt much. Every dyno test i have seen with exhaust mods, the HP dropped. At one time they sold a special pipe ( can't recall what it was called ) they dyno tested it on the GWRRA site an it decreases HP by 10 HP. THAT WAS ON THE 1500.

If you go with straight pipes do you remove the catalytic converters???

Didn't do anything with the cats, just unbolted the stock cannons and drove it to the muffler shop and had the work done and drove it home. Really quite simple and fairly painless.

I have no complaints about power, speed, increased or decreased RPMs or noise.

They aren't for everyone but that's why we drive motorcycles. Because we're different.

I bought a set of mufflers on craigslist that were off of a HD, they stayed on about 400 miles. Did not care for the sound, now they are in my garage gathering dust. They were not stock, can't remember that much about them.
