When I purchased my FW I ordered 20" Windshield, Passenger backrest, luggage rack, engine guard and rear bumper. Parts came in Thursday and I picked them up along with hi-way pegs and sundowner seat. Dealer had a rider backrest in stock when I bought it. Dealer wanted $428.00 to install parts so I did them myself. No big issues but I was a little disappointed in HD as some bolts were missing and some of the instructions were a little vague. Anyway all are on and trike looks great.

Now if it would just quit raining......

Hey Sunman,
Did you have any problems with passenger backrest mounts? I just tried installing mine and with the bolts just finger tight the locking slides wouldn't operate. Slowly loosened them until the locking slides moved freely but then the whole mount was way to loose.
Probably going to return them, I know I didn't over tighten them, you can squeeze then in between you thumb and forefinger and stop the slide from moving.

I do not have any problems installing or removing my passenger backrest. The only thing I have to do sometimes is after pushing the backrest all the way down I have to pull up slightly to get the locking tabs to engage. Also, there is an extra set of O rings that go around the bottom of the backrest legs. They are larger than the ones that come already installed on the backrest legs. The instructions say if the backrest is loose with the smaller O rings to install the larger O rings. If you have installed the larger O rings maybe they are too tight? Just a thought. Good luck.

I didn't even get that far, just pulled up the instructions to make sure that I'm using the correct item names.
While screwing down the "backrest docks", with just a torx bit in my finger tips, I noticed that the "release buttons" would stick. The only way that I could get them to work freely was to loosen the screws, but then the "backrest docks" would be way to loose.
After looking closer at both docks I could squeeze them between 2 fingers and the release button would stick, thinking I got a bad set.

Actually, after initially reading this, it dawned on me that I have never tried to remove my passenger backrest...... So, I tried and it is absolutely stuck in place.... Well, the dealer installed it, I will let them see about fixing it.....

a sort of a little bummed......:(:(:(

OK now you had me worried so I went out to the garage and checked mine. I didn't have any problem removing and reinstalling mine. Seems like there might be some defective ones out there.

Just dropped my Freewheeler off at shop around 4 hours north of me (around Petoskey) they are going to have it for 7 - 10 days, installing a left foot brake pedal.
Once I get it back I'm going to try installing them again except for this time I'm going to use a torque wrench and make sure that both bolts are tightened the same amount and not pinching one end of the backrest dock.

Springman,
Did you ever get this checked out by the dealer?

Curiosity got the better of me and I took one of the backrest docks apart; pretty simple set up. By inserting a small washer, as a shim on the inside, where one of the bolts goes through and reassembling it looks like I should be able to screw it down to the specified torque without binding the release button.
I'm going to stop on the way home from work and pick-up some washers of the correct size and give it a try.

Well, if you look at my Thread - http://www.triketalk.com/forum/threads/26712-Bummed-can-t-get-Dealer-service-anytime-soon

you will see my current situation....UGH!

..But, I will investigate your solution - THANKS!

Man that sucks, 3-4 weeks is way to long.

Using thin washers as shims on the inside of the backrest docks did the trick. Installed and tightened to specified torque and the release buttons move freely.

I scheduled an appointment with Century in Medina for Sunday....so, I am good.

However, I will try your fix on Saturday and hopefully have one less thing to have the dealer look at...:):D:):D:)
