3M Spray Film Paint protection

I got this reply on a Gold Wing Forum--:(

I used it one time on different panels. When I tried to remove it a year later, I had a heck of a time. And some areas got really worked over with all he rubbing--took off my paint clear coat. I now only use the commercial plastic clear bra done by a dealer. The clear bra is more expensive, but more permanent and effective.

Every new bike I buy I start rubbing the white paint off the switches somewhere around 5 years of age. To stop that I used some of Ma's clear nail polish to cover the white paint and at 9 years of age the switches look brand new still. Don't think I want to try that on the paint, tho.

My '07 FX4 has a dark grey painted front bumper, after hitting a doe, it got a new one, then that nicely finished one got some major chips from a passing truck kicking stones, so I took the bumper to a shop and had it refinished, then I coated it well with the 3M stuff. A year later, I noticed bumper looked DULL, and I spent a whole afternoon peeling the stuff off. I'm sure it saved some dings, but the bumper still picked up a few, but now it shines too.

I had used the stuff once before but after a drive in the winter with frigid temps, it came off in sheets at the car wash.
