Probably a strange question.

Have ordered a RoadSmith R-body conversion with rake kit for my 2020 Ultra Limited and have been waiting several weeks for them to build and ship it.

In the meantime, several on here were recommending an Avon Chrome front Trike tire. Impossible to find right now and the Avon rep said it will be at least August before any more get shipped to the US.

So I preordered one with Summit Racing and wait now. My 2020 Ultra Limited has a 130/70B18 size tire on it and is what I ordered.

So today, I was at the Harley dealer ordering a primary kit to be ready to change the drive belt. As I was walking out the door, I noticed a couple new Ultra Limited trikes on the Showroom floor. As I was looking, they have a big fat 16” tire on front.

My question is can (or should I) run the skinny 18” Avon trike tire on front or do I need to be swapping the rim/tire out for the fat 16” Avon trike tire?

That's a personal preference, I would stick with the 18" wheel and tire, but if you like the look and don't mind dropping a grand for the cool factor then go for it. The stock 18" tire has proven to provide good performance for years now, so I don't think there is any need to switch to the wider 16" wheel and tire based on grip.

Don't All Tri Glides come with a 16" front wheel? It sounds like he's doing a conversion on a 2020 limited that comes with an 18 " wheel? I think the CVO Tri came with a 18". I did not know Avon made a 18" trike front tire for a Harley ?

That's the same size Goldwings use.

Not sure if I got the story correct from the Avon Tyre Rep, but sounded like Cooper bought Avon a while back, now Goodyear recently bought Cooper. Sounds like Avon is being restructured under Goodyear and will get to keep their name, but it is part of the reason the tires are only available in the UK right now. The Rep said they would be shipping some this fall and I just got an email from Summit Racing last night that said there was an updated status on the shipment of the tire now for July 30th.

I think I will stick with the 18" for my Trike conversion at this point, especially now that I know the Honda's are running them without issue.

Yep, that is correct. Goodyear will eventually have production in the US and supply won't because problem, but that's going to take a while.

One thing to point out. The Avon 16" trike tire is a bias ply and a higher load rating than their 18" radial trike tire that is designed for the Goldwings

I have the 18 Avon Trike tire on my 2021 Ultra w/CSC conversion. Put in on late last year and have logged 6,000 mile so far.

I like it.
