what type of coolant is supposed to be used in my Honda 2012? Is there a special motorcyle coolant that Must be used or will regular 50/50 auto coolant be ok. I read the manual but I don't know if it is speaking of just regular coolant.Thanks for a quick response.

50/50 is good but make sure it is aluminum block friendly. Not all are.....:xszpv::xszpv:

Thanks for answering my question so quickly.What brand of 50/50 coolant are you using that is aluminium block safe? Also how often do you change it? Im at 20k and the original coolant is in it and looks fine.

Use only silicate free antifreeze for aluminum engines

Can't go wrong with Honda's premix 50/50;

Honda Type 2 coolant is an ethylene glycol base product for extra long lasting aluminum component protection. Honda coolant has been developed to provide corrosion and rust protection of all cooling system components. Requires no additional corrosion inhibitors. When used as directed in Honda vehicles, this coolant will give complete protection for 5 years or 60,000 miles. No additional water is required. 50/50 Pre-Diluted antifreeze.

if not you can find silicate free antifreeze at Walmart or Autozone

Can't agree more.

I just go to my Honda Motorcycle Dealer and purchase Their 50/50 Pre-Mix.....it's LIGHT BLUE in color, and the same as what comes in Honda Motorcycles from the Factory....."but", as stated above, it "ALL" works......;)

If you buy an antifreeze be sure it contains no Silica. I buy the pet friendly. Also no additives like stop leak. The water pump on the motorcycle is very sensitive to coolant and can be made to leak

The Honda car coolant is Blue comes in 1 gallon jugs and is 5 year 50,000 miles. For the bike the coolant the Honda bike dealer sells is green and comes in quarts and Honda recommends every 2 years or so for changing.

I wonder if they changed it a couple of years ago. Until i switched over to the car coolant all of the coolant I ever bought from Honda for the bike was green.

I would think all antifreeze is aluminum safe.. I can't think of many motors that are cast iron.

Blue, Green, Purple, Black.........WHO GIVES A SH#$. If it's ALM safe Run it!!!! Just how many companies really make it anyway????? It's all made to run XXXX miles and be changed every XXXXX years. Do you guys have these kinds of discussions with the cars you drive????

Gives us something to discuss instead of wasting time reading the owners manual;)

I use the Honda motorcycle coolant. It is blue. I keep it on hand. Been using it for years and it was always blue. Order it online and save.
