1997 valkerie

No. The transmission is integral with the engine, the reverse gears are internal, on the rear of the GW engine, powered by the starter. Plus you would have to add the activation cable, electrical safety switches, etc. Just the reverse gearing weighs approx 70#.

Now, if you could find a Valkyrie (or Valk engine) that was made for the Japanese market, those had reverse. But I know of none that were imported back here from Japan.

No reverse for US. made Valkyries and no one that I know of has one. The Valkyries made in Japan were the only ones I know of that had reverse and no one makes an aftermarket reverse. I think someone priced out the parts and the reverse parts were over $2000 if you could get them.

Someone tried this on a Valk, don't remember where I saw it and can't find it again.
They machined a sprocket that fit on the front of the rear end yoke,I believe it was like 6" in dia.with a chain or belt that went to a small 12 volt motor mounted off to the side of the rear end housing and attached to the trike frame.Would have to put tranny in nuetral and engage the 12 volt motor and it would turn the drive shaft in reverse.
Don't remember the complete system build or how the thing worked while the trike was in forward motion but the article included the build photos and showed the trike going backwards.
I know I was looking at somethng else and I believe it was a You Tube video that came up on the side bar.
Someone out there has one on their Valkyrie.

Sonny jogged my memory... I read on the American Trike conversion page that they offered an electrical reverse for chain, belt or shaft. Probably only on their conversions, tho. Here's where I read it, you might ask them.

American Trike

Mother Honda left out the reverse when they adapted the 1500 engine to the Valkerie. The Valk isn't exactly a light motorcycle, you would think the reverse would have been left in, as it isn't new engineering. Must have been a budget thing.

As I tell my wife when she asks me if a major mod can be done: "We can do anything you want if we throw enough money at it."

Most just make due with the "Flintsone Reverse".
