0600 hrs

You know...I feel a little ashamed to tell this, but I'm going to anyhow...

For quite some time, I didn't post in the 0600 thread because I was angry. Angry at my government because they were so broken (and I don't care what side of the political fence you're on, BOTH SIDES were wrong) that they couldn't even pay their employees. And many of those employees, self included, were forced to work anyway for security and other various reasons. Even to the point of working forced overtime during that period.

As y'all know, it stretched into the longest shutdown in government history at 35 days. We went 46 days between paychecks, and seemingly nobody cared in DC. The president said one of the most laughable statements I've ever heard when a reporter asked him what he had to say about what was happening to the folks that weren't getting paid when he replied..."I can relate"...BULL CRAPPITY!!

Anyhow, I was mad at government, and instead of taking it out on them, without really thinking, I took it out on saluting our flag, and the Military that stands behind it. I was wrong. I equated not saluting the flag, with not saluting our piece of crap government. That's not the case. I may not do it every day, but I will never get angry at the idiots in Washington again and fail to salute our flag and the Military for a long period like that again.

I want to apologize to all of you that were doing the honorable thing and keeping up the salutes, and thank you for keeping it up in my shameful absence.

I learned a lesson from my grandson when he was 10 years old. I raised Mitch until he was 13. His dad was not in his life. Mitch and I were having a discussion about how his dad never kept the promises to Mitch. Mitch looked at me and said, i love my dad, I JUST DON’T LIKE WHAT HE DOES, he is my dad and I will always love my dad.

SALUTE to all that defend this great country, NO MATTER THE ACTIONS OF THE LEADERS.

And this is what finally dawned on me. Your grandson was wise beyond his years.
