I'll just jump right in and say a big Howdy to everyone. I just found this and already found info thats going to take a bit.

I have a 2023 Road Glide 3 (yes, I know it is a constant upgrade), but that's why I got it, and it's the most comfortable so far. (Yes there is a painful story in that one)

But my question is about seats....
I waited the 1000+ miles before I decided on anything. Now, I actually like the seat to a point. I have a bad back, so I MUST have a backrest, and I do—an HD driver backrest. What I would like is one with a little taller back, maybe set back just a hair. Definitely not forward!

The dealer is recommending the Sundowner seat from HD. It's not a bad price, but?? I'm not paying the $600+++.

What's out there? What have you tried? I've also seen one manufacturer, CC Rider, and was wondering about them, too.

Ill get some Pics posted soon on my bike.

Welcome from Canada. I installed a seat from Ultimate Seats. Great price and offer backrests as well. I find it more comfortable than the H-D Hammock that I had on my '09 EG UC. My best half prefers it as well. She was constantly having to push herself back on the Hammock.

Everyone has their favorite seat. Some of us , myself included ,have ended up actually spending more by attempting to spend less. I paid to have the stock seat modified at Ohio Bike week. It was better than anything I tried on the Harley seat loaner program. I liked the Harley Hammock but didn’t want to spend the money. I wanted to do a Russell Daylong but didn’t want to spend the money. In the end I still wasn’t comfortable on the modified seat. I sent the seat to Russell Daylong and in the end I love it. Hope you find something that works for you but I’d save the $ until able to afford a Russell Daylong.

I believe in both Mustang super tour or Ultimate tallboy both with backrest. Current seat is an Ultimate tallboy with backrest. It took about 1000 miles to break in but now is great. I can now do 500 miles days with no issues. I had a Mustang on my Electra Glide and I wouldn’t hesitate to own another one. Buy once cry once as they say. You get what you pay for.

welcome to the insanity. If you are happy with the seat you have but need a taller backrest get jolfd of Utopia, they make the best back rest around. They adj up or down and back and forth. I have had three on 3 different and love them. If you want a full on custom seat get hold of Dave Stevens at motorcycledave.com. Besides custom seats he also builds wheelchairs and beds for people who have to stay there. He knows his stuff. If you just want to change the seat you have he also makes a pad you can install yourself. Call him and tell him what you need ,he is great to talk to.

Welcome Wendell from Key Largo Fl

Doesn't your Harley dealer have the trial seat program? Most do.

I have a bad back as well. I never could make more than about an hour without stopping to stretch my legs on the factory seat I had on my 19 Ultra.
I know most Harley dealerships offer seat trials with other seats. If you can go that route, You may find a better option that meets your demands.

I did much research on seats and opinions were all over the place. One seat stood out among all of my research without any negative reviews, the RDL “Russel Day Long” seat. They are pricy but that beats spending money on several seats and still not having a comfort level that you are looking for.
I can ride from gas stop to gas stop now with very little problem.

I purchased a used seat from a member of another forum for the seat pan to have the RDL built and I had the heated rider and passenger option added. I really enjoy the heated seat on cooler days.

I took the RDL off my Ultra when I traded it and put it on my Trike. All is well.

From one old hippie to another.. Thanks for the info. I looked at this seat and it looks nice. Did you get the driver back rest too? and how do you like it?

Unfortunately No. Ive been working on them about this and even had others I know ask too. Hope they will add this program.
Nothing against the dealership as they are going through new parts mgr and he is dealing with past messes.

Didn't get the back rest. That's what my best half is for and I felt it would just get in the way.
We like it a lot. To me it's just as comfortable as the hammock without sitting me higher and my wife really likes that she sits a little higher and doesn't have to keep shifting back.
