Mid step
Hi Brett,
Put the mid step on my 2017. Glad I did. Works great and I’ve not had any clearance problems whatsoever. I’m sure my addition of new shocks and lifts in the rear helped with clearance. I’m sure you’ll appreciate the mid step.

I love mine!
Just have to add my two cents. We have been running a mid step on three trikes now. My wife won’t ride without one and when we trade bikes she always makes sure we keep her mid step. It just makes life easier for both of us and it does give you more options for foot position. Ride safe and have fun.
why not step on the floorbaords already there?

The mid step makes it extremely convenient for getting on & off.
I never thought I’d l like them as much as I do!
After both knee surgeries, they are a true savior!
I also really like the look especially with matching floorboards.
(Over the winter I removed the “Slip Stream style” and went with the “Kahuna” style floor boards).
Some may not prefer the look of seeing 3 floorboards there…. But for me: This “Mid Step” is among the top 5 best mods I added to my Tri Glide.

It is expensive, and when I first saw them, I did not like the look....and I still don't really care for the look. BUT, it is SO much nicer, mounting and dismounting, I would not want to be without one.

I figured the Trike would just be a lot easier for my wife to get on and off of. Ive come to the conclusion that she reads way too much into mounting and dismounting and she makes things worse with her lack of coordination ! Its just not that hard. I can be on or off the bike and she gets lost every time. The thing cant even tip over while mounting . She claims that she doesnt want to hit the fenders but its more than that . Ive told her for years that she cant walk on flat ground and chew gum at the same time and she really cant . Hopefully on the next trip she finally figures it out. I gave up with hints and tips. I just look the other way

Sounds like you just may need to help her out and get a mid step?
lol!!!They really do help a LOT.
I too was able to adapt without issue prior to adding the mid step & got it to help my wife out too.
Im not going to lie…. I use it myself every time now.

After my wife fell getting off and broke her wrist I knew it was needed. I had looked at them before but couldn’t get past the cost. We both like it a lot.

Back about 8 years ago, I hadn’t heard of a mid step. I needed something for my wife so I made my own. I used 1/2” x1-1/2” flat bar, 2 u-bolts and a peg from eBay. Left side only, nothing on the right. Works just fine.
Interesting. My wife is just uncoordinated. Hopefully practice makes perfect. We shall see.

There is also a technique to getting on that might make it easier for the passenger. It involves getting on using left side which is the normal mounting side anyway. It takes a bit of practice as it does feel odd the first few times but isn't hard. As you stand close to trike, face away from it. Raise your left leg up and put left leg on the step. You can then use your hands to steady, maybe left hand on trunk and right hand on left handlebar. Raise up with just the left leg and then swing the right leg over the seat. That's it, then sit down. Getting off is just the reverse. Again raise up on left step with left leg while holding on. Swing right leg over the seat and step onto the ground first with right leg. Maybe this will help some with passengers and awkward mounting and dismounting.
I guess if the passenger has a bum left knee, it will also work from right side, just always step and raise up with leg towards rear of bike so right leg in this case.

I've had them on my HD trike for a couple of years now. They work good for me. No clearance problems yet.

I concur. I don't cheap out on my trike by any means but for $539, at least for now I'm going to have to continue sliding my leg across the seat. But it is nice.
My wife has pretty much finally figured out how to get on although I find it kind of amusing cause its not that hard. I let her get on first then I step on the drivers board and slide my foot over the seat in front of her and I am on. As far as I am concerned there are more than enuff places to put a foot to get on. I dont need running boards I have them on my truck Then there is that price !

I also had to take second look at the price… but I saw the great convenience it really adds.
I too, have no issue “throwing a leg” over to get on and was purely for the wife (and to make sure parts aren’t getting kicked and scuffed) to help her get on.
(But having bad knees don’t help!)
But now after having it on over a year now, adding matching floorboards (this year I changed everything out to the “Kahuna series”), I will now say, it is extremely convenient and I now use the mid step all the time too.
I totally understand this is not everyone’s cup of tea, and may not like the look….

and all personal choice.
