Riding the trike are you a ATGATT or jeans and t-shirt type rider?

As I have gotten older I developed into a ATGATT rider on my 2 wheelers. Since I'm transitioning over to the trike I find myself forgetting the ATGATT and riding with a helmet, jeans, t-shirt gloves and boots. Unless its colder then I'll wear a non armored jacket. I leave the armored jacket and pants at home figuring its much harder to end up on the pavement on the trike. I know things happen but my odds seem a lot better on 3 wheels not to eat the pavement. Is this a foolish way of thinking? What gear do you wear? Thanks for your thoughts.

IMO, it is good to go prepared

Here in Florida I wear a long sleeve cotton shirt, jeans, boots and gloves

I carry my leathers in the trunk just in case

Now that I'm on 3, I dress for the ride, not the slide. Except I always wear my helmet even though they are optional here in Arizona..... Jim

Here in west central FL aka Gold Coast I wear laced hiking boot goretex or Klim Armored boots, just purchased a Daytona MC boot goretex to replace the Klim boots. I have an armored mesh jacket which I wore 95% time prior to going to (3) wheels. Around town I usually wear SPF rated shirts due to the intense sun exposure here in FL. I have BD pants (military cargo pants), Joe Rocket & Cycle Gear Bilt mesh pants, Klim Latitude Jacket when traveling usually go with the with Klim Badlands pants (goretex). Assorted leather MCated gloves some have armor some are summer gloves. Always a helmet or 3/4 one. A Veskimo cooling vest under armored jacket when touring in the summer.

We're a lot more relaxed riding on 3 wheels, jeans, longsleeve T, boots, gloves for me and 1/2 helmets. ATGATT when on 2 wheels including modular helmets and some kind of coat.

Jeans, boots, gloves, long sleeve UV shirt and always a helmet. When I was on 2 wheels I always wore a leather jacket (regular in the winter and perforated in the summer).

its much harder to end up on the pavement on the trike.

It is??? All the dangers you're exposed to on a two wheeler you're also exposed to on a trike, except it tipping over. If you bought a trike cuz you think it's safer, ya might want to rethink that as I've been on a Triglide for over 10 years.

I’ve been riding Trikes since 2008…. And Triglides from 2011 to present… (About 14 years)…Motorcycles from the 60’s till about 2017…..

Safe is a relative term ….There’s other factors besides not tipping over….The general public has a different attitude towards Trikes vs Motorcycles…..They don’t treat trikes like a target..If you have to make a panic stop there’s hardly any drama…IE; Locking a rear tire and maybe high-siding or low-siding..

Can you get hurt on a Trike’ Sure you can also get hurt going down the stairs to the garage before you even get on the Trike…

Welllllllllll neither. I always wear a helmet and an armored mesh or textile jacket. I hardly ever wear my leathers anymore. I have good gloves and boots too.

I wear a very, yellow, high vis jacket 100% 0f the time, and (it's the law here/I wear a 3/4 helmet also 100%)
I have 3 different H/V yellow jackets that I wear according to the temps.... Hot, cool, cold (and a plug/inheated Garman jacket when very Cccccccccccold )

Aerostich Darian Hi-Viz Jacket and Pants with Elk skin leather gloves and a full face helmet on Road Trips or when I venture out onto one of the Interstates. Same gear but substitute jeans for the Darian Pants around town.

I will always wear my hiking boots, jeans and a modular helmet. In the past, I may or may not wear my Tourmaster mesh jacket with armor. If it's colder, it was 100% with jacket and a liner but warmer I may just wear a t-shirt and still wear everything else.

But after my recent incident, it's probably going to be closer to 100% all the time with jacket as well. Exception may be if doing a quick run around town. On road trips, I will be wearing the jacket along with helmet, jeans, and hiking boots always now.

There is the idea that on 3 wheels is safer than 2. It does tend to be more stable but you are still just as exposed like you would be in 2 wheels. And like I've said many times before, they are called accidents for a reason. Otherwise they would be an on purpose. No one goes out riding to have an accident but they can still happen.

I hope I did good. I just ordered some Fox creek leather overpants after a ton of research.
I've used chaps my whole life, but they don't provide the amount of protection that these overpants will. Plus I need them for Fall/Winter wx.

As far as ATGATT Yes I do. The trike will give you a false sense of security (at least it does me). There's always the possibility that you will be thrown off under certain conditions. Also getting side swiped at an intersection, parking lot, or anywhere. I've already been in 3 accidents over the years, and now that I'm 67 I don't imagine I'd fare well during a get off, so I'm preparing for the worst. At a minimum I must have an armored jacket with back protection. I broke my back in 2 spots plus my neck, so I like to protect those the most, and I feel my winter leather armored jacket will help.
I always wear gloves, jeans, and t-shirt under a jacket. Shoes are usually boots that protect my ankles at least. Sometimes I'll wear my heavy Red Wing Engineer's boots. Full face helmets always.

Jeans and tees unless it gets cooler then it’s a textile jacket and leather chaps or rain suit. I am looking for some textile pants this year.

Holy Cow! Are these Fox Creek leather overpants awesome. I followed their sizing and the fit is perfect. I won't even have to trim the length.
They look like a pair of jeans with all the pockets, watch pocket, belt loops, button snap, zipper on the side of the legs, and 3 snaps on tne bottom of each leg, and there lined.
They dont look baggy at all while wearing jeans or even shorts underneath.

Boots "Carolina engineer" and Bibs "Carhartt", T-shirt or sweatshirt depending on temperature. Half helmet in summer and full face in colder temps with leather jacket and heated jacket liner. Also, in winter I need the insulated canvas bibs, and they work about as good as anything. I've often thought the suit Aerostitch sells would be the ticket, but I just can't bring myself to part with a grand for one. Good gloves of course, "Sullivan", best gloves made and not to bad, google them!

It was between 79 and 82° out today, but i wanted to try out my new fox creek leather overpants. I wore them over some 501's that had a lightweight web type belt, and also a belt to hold up the leathers. Also wore my engineers boots.
The heat actually wasn't a factor, and i was a bit surprised. I mean there was some dampness but very little. I was also wearing my HD Shovelhead leather classic jacket with a t-shirt.
I found the pants to be superb in fit, Finish, and protection. No air got past them. No flapping around in the wind either. And they look bad a$$.
I bet they'll be perfect late fall, winter, and early spring.
That's my review. I'd buy them again.

Stratmarshall, You asked: Is this a foolish way of thinking?

In the twleve years I've been riding my Tglide I've experienced every close call you'd ever experience on a two wheeler (been riding over 60 years). Granted, you don't have to worry about the bike falling over at a stop if unsupported, but having 3 wheels under you sure doesn't stop cagers from trying to run you over. The only other advantage a trike has over a single track vehicle is more stopping power. And that's only if you practice wit it. However, if telling the better half that trikes are safer than two wheelers so you catch less grief, GO FOR IT!
