Many articles on this subject that draws folks from around the globe. So, I decided that I would go see for myself. I am fortunate in that I only needed to follow US 67 S from my home. Only stopping to acquaint myself with random Dairy Queens along my route. Much to my suprise, the lights are highly visible, even in the day time ........... As they should be !

Why are they called ghost lights ? According to several of the locals, power to them is not a constant. Thusly, the name "Ghost lights." Imagine that.

BTW ............. If on a motorcycle, be sure to fuel. Between there and Presidio in the SW corner of TX, there are only ghost towns. No fuel. The ride along TX 170 E is absolutely gorgeous. The Rio Grande is on ones right. Old Mexico is directly across from you.

That is Mexico across in the background.

And then why would i want to be anywhere near there...[Mexico]...

Hunting and fishing is excellent. This area is far from the "Valley" near McAllen and/or Laredo where they are having to deal with the illegals crossing. Having Big Bend Nat'l park on the east and Presidio to the west makes this an inhospitable area to cross into the US. There are only two north-south highways. Both heavily patrolled as is TX 170 between them. :clapping: Big Bend is a long way from nowhere ! That is why we like it.

Old news .............. Way back in first week of March. Sector is extremely quiet now with major influx of law enforcement. I feel safer here than San Antonio, Houston or, Austin.

Yea......Thats what they all say..........................

I've never had an issue. I am of the belief that the article is another overblown headline grabber by local media to sell copy. San Angelo, TX is not exactly a thriving metropolis. In fact, it is shedding population. It is a left wing college town thank you. A bottom dwellers Harvard of sorts.
