strong fuel odor

yesterday was in the mid 90s, so the ride was a short one of about 75 miles. I filled up in town before I left and when I got home there was a very strong smell of gasoline. very hot in the garage as well but no sign of any leaking. If I just came home after filling up, I would consider expansion the problem but not after using two gallons. gonna take the air cleaner apart this morning and check for anything unusual. Has anyone else experienced this on their Tri glides?

I get a strong gas smell on shutdown almost every time. No leakage any where. The smell goes away very quickly. Asked the HD tech about it and he said it was common on 103 motors.

+1. When I get home my bike goes directly into the garage. My 09 FLHT had a funny fuel type odor. Didn't exactly smell like raw gas, but it was a fuel related odor. My 11 Trike has the same smell. Checked everything and it seems to be the nature of the beast.

This happened once with my '11. Checking it out proved that I did not have the fuel cap tighted down enough, Turned a couple more clicks and then no gas smell and none since, now that I am careful to make sure it is tight enough.

I never noticed a smell on mine and mine goes directly into the garage when I get home.

3 times I have had vapor lock on my 08 trike due to the gas cap not venting correctly. This occured after filling the tank when the trike was hot. I drilled a small hole in the top of the cap all the way through and have since cured the vapor lock problem.<br />

I am wondering if Harley has solved the issue with the older gas caps by allowing more pressure venting through the cap and you might be smelling the gas vapors because of that?

"Sometimes" just a Summer/Hot Weather Occurance.....All of my Vehicles do it sometimes this time of year.....ThumbUp

</div>I think so. The smell I get isn't the smell of raw gas. It's hard to describe. It's the smell of a really hot engine that I suspect results from a tiny amount of fuel that vaporizes in the engine after it is shut off. Not bad, but noticeable this time of the year.

Sign me up as one who has experienced this same odor. It had the wife really concerned, but like the others, saw nothing on the floor. I've had it a month now and do not notice it as much.

I also noticed this exact same phenomenon. It dissipates quickly, however, and I haven't noticed anything out of place. I wrote it off as "hot engine smell".
