TT NE Rally II planning

I got 8 people waiting for a destination where to meet . I would like to firm this up. ARE we meeting at the entrance to Quabbin or at the parking lot as we did last year or some place else .

OK, my suggestion(s), for what it's worth.....

Meet up at either the entrance to the Quabbin, or the restaurant we ate at last year (Herrick's Tavern, Rt 202, Orange MA).

Head west on Rt 2, stop in Charlemont (about 45 minutes west of Herrick's) at either the restaurant that someone here mentioned or at Mohawk Trading Post (good sized paved parking lot). If they have a lot of customers, we could always stretch that another10 minutes to Indian Plaza - large parking lot and no powwow scheduled that weekend, but the parking lot is packed dirt/gravel.

Those who want, continue west to the trading post (about another 25 minutes) a little before the hairpin turn. Decent sized parking but again packed dirt/gravel, a store to grab a water/soda, and a very nice view. (And we'll pass Florida on the way! ;)) This section is a really nice, if short, ride through the Mohawk Trail State Forest.

Anyone who wants the hairpin turn can continue west, and anyone who needs to head home can say their goodbye's there.

Total ride time would be a little over an hour (discounting the time it takes to get to the meeting spot and home, of course), with a couple of "social" breaks thrown in.

Food? Herrick's Tavern before the ride or that restaurant in Charlemont that someone mentioned.

Honestly, I think we have to decide/agree if our primary focus is a meet & greet, or a ride. If we aren't meeting until noon, and people have to be home early evening, I'd recommend we consider it more of a lunch/social gathering and agree on someplace maybe mid-state area, so people have time to get there/get home when they need to.

Thoughts?

Hi Spiritdream,I'm not sure if we're thinking of the same place but the trading post just before hairpin turn( it's called the western summit) is closed up.At least it was boarded up 2 weeks ago when i rode thru there.I could take a scoot up there tomorrow to chk again. There is another little place on the left by the elk statue but i've never been in it so i don't know what they have there.Other than that there isn't anything after the Mohawk park until you get to the Golden Eagle.

I like Spirtdream's idea about meeting at Herrick's Tavern, Rt 202, Orange MA
where we ate last year OR just at the Mobil Station just after it (if we are
not eating at Herrick's Tavern). Then head Westerly to eat.
Then people can pell off when needed.
It all depends where people are comming from and IF they want to travel that far ?

John ...
Who is on the list and where are they comming from and how far do they
want to travel to meet up ?

Here I'll be 1st ....

Ron & Lynn from Nashua - Either the Quabbin or Herrick's Tavern is fine.
We will be heading West along the NH/MA border then dropping down into MA.
It takes about 2 hours for us.

I attached a map so you can see how far places are apart.
"A" is the Quabbin
"B" is Herrick's Tavern, Rt 202, Orange MA
"C" is the rt.2 hairpin turn (Golden Eagle)

Well, THAT stinks!! I liked that place! It was also a handy marker for me - I knew when I hit that place it was time to turn around (I do NOT like the hairpin turn!! LOL) Oh well, back to using Mohawk Trading Post or Indian Plaza as a stop off, I guess. No biggie - both are picturesque, in their own way.

Now, someone needs to tell me if we're eating somewhere along the way, because if not I'll have lunch at Herrick's Tavern before the ride. :)

Has a time to meet at the Tower parking lot been made ?
Also could all those that ARE COMING please chime in here to say
WHERE they are coming from. Not where you live BUT WHERE you
are riding from that morning to the meeting place. It would help to
know what idea's to plan ...
Thanks ...
Rob ....

Bikerbozo and I will be coming in from Sturbridge, MA, about a 45-60 minute ride. I can be there any (reasonable!) time - I assume he'll feel the same way. I just need to know what time to be there, and are we "picking up" any others on the way! :)

I will be coming from southern Rhode Island. Traveling north into MA, then west to the Quabbin Reservoir (or whatever final meeting place is decided upon). Open to "where ever" for a ride and some lunch. Ken

Lunch/dinner is a must I would think. If we ride to the hairpin turn then I will eat and continue on home that way I will not be going back to Quabbin . Cheri your not afraid of a little ole turn

Afraid? No. Just don't like it! Gone down once, up once, didn't like it either way! Corners are my biggest weakness when it comes to riding, so hairpins are not really high on my "favorite" lists! ;)

I am trying to fig out how to get the the meeting spot with out going thru Holyoke , Mass.

I won't go to Orange first. I just wasn't sure where we were going to meet at the time. Since it's been decided we'll meet at the Quabbin, I'll go straight there from Sturbridge.

John & Cheri:
