Just stumbled on some hot 45 LC ammo

Wonder if they'll be ok in a late model lever rifle?

Jack :Santa:

Probly could contact the rifle manufacturer, they would know I imagine. These would make a great little brush gun carbine round, similar to the .44 mag that (I think) Ruger made. They're a handful in a single action pistol tho...I can tell you that!

I have the New England Arms single shot 45 LC...And i also shoot 410's out of it...

The long colt is more like a pop gun compared to when i shoot 410 slugs...The 410 gos much further with less drop........I keep it in the back of my Rhino mostly for Porcupines in the Apple Tress....Elsewhere they are safe....

The .410 will out perform the old style pistol .45 Colt cartridges but can't hold a candle to the new hot rifle, Blackhawk & TC rounds.

Check these numbers out:

- .410 moves the 88 grain slug about 1800 fps (respectable but a very light projectile)

- .45 Colt moves a 300 grain bullet 1800 - 1950 fps comfortably and can be beefed up to 2180 fps with the right load (altho case pressures are getting up there)

-.45 colt with a 185 grain bullet would probly be capable of even higher speeds but not a good idea as the lighter bullets have no cannelure groove. Altho you can add your own.

Today I ordered a Marlin 1894 lever gun in .45 Colt....anxious to see what I can do with it.

I will David....'course the FBI will make me wait 6 days after the NICS check before I can bring it home.

3 more days and I can bring my Sig P365 home, jeesch costing me a fortune in gas doing all this running around. :xzqxz:

Hickhock 45 does a nice review of it in this video, think about halfway thru he starts shooting his hand loaded hot rounds....pretty cool. (His has the octagon barrel, I saved about $600 by getting the round one)

NICE! :clapping:

That will handle the hot stuff....do you reload?

I have a 45/70 and my son hot loads the shells 500gr....And when i let someone shoot it they very seldom shoot another round funny though when i'm shooting at a deer i don't even notice the kick....My Lever action 45/70 405gr isn't quite a hand full to handle..
