When riding in a group, trikes are in the rear. I have been told by riders in the front that they cannot see my lights. I know they are adjusted well and I always ride on low beam with the passing lights on.


I have been looking for amber or yellow passing lamps, to make the lights more visible. I have had no success. I have found tint that can be applied to the lights, not really sure about that.


If anyone knows of a source or ways to become more visible I would appreciate it. Jim
 
If like you say your lights are adjusted and you have the spot/fog lights on, Then there isn't any reason why the guys in front can't see your lights...

Check with DK Custom Products. He has a thread about changes and mods to his TG and has amber/yellow for his spots.

2014 with factory Daymaker, factory spots, and turn signals replaced with Custom Dynamics white LEDs that turn amber when using the turn signals. My rears are strobing LEDs and very bright.

+1 on that... I lead my riding group most if the time on my trike. Most are two wheelers behind me except for one other trike in our group.

If your lights are adjusted correctly they should be seen.
 
I too ride where I want to. If the two wheelers can't keep up, shame on them ! Like our good friend HDBob, I have the custom dynamic Ringz which are white until you click the turn signal, then they go amber. The white light is whiter and brighter than our headlights. It also is easier to see. On Amber, they are pretty bright as well. Just a plug and play deal. I think DK has an equally good product that would work as well. I just have the Dynamic RIngz.

Our group is increasingly shifting to trikes. As a road captain, our only stipulation is that trikes ride on the right in our stagger formation, for line of sight between the front and rear road captains.

+1 or 2 on the Custom Dynamics Rings for the front turn signals; very bright and visible. If they can't see you with these, they need to get an eye exam!
 
I've used these on my 16 and will on the new one as well. Easy to apply and remove. Inexpensive, I like them

Just ordered a set for passing lamps and a clear for the headlight. Use MOTO25 for a 25% discount....good deal.
they also protect the lights from small rocks etc....covers have a rubber type feel....
 
I group ride w/mostly two up Goldwingers and GW trike conversions. No one has ever stated they could not see my lights. Also I have the HD headlight modulator. It definitely is seen. Even the oncoming cagers move further to their right shoulder of the road.

I am all about SEE & BE SEEN!

The yellow lamin-x is what I am running on my passing lights. I believe they help other see me better. Mine have been installed for around 40,000 miles and look to be in like new condition.

I also use the Stealth Driving Lights, and the Stealth LED Front Turn Signals/White Running Lights up front. Both of these really help other see me (day and night), and they do a good job of lighting up the road at night without blinding oncoming traffic.

I know exactly what you mean about the factory LED's not being as visible during the day as the older style lights...when you are at certain angles from them...sometimes you can't even tell if they are on.

This is another reason I have the lights I do...I am definitely more visible during the day than with the factory setup.

Thanks for the comments, lots of good ideas. I do have a lift kit and the lights were adjusted, may not of been done right by an independent mechanic. I am going to check them myself tomorrow for adjustment.

Kevin, I have been following you for a long time and will be ordering a few lights soon.

Just ordered DK Customs Stealth Driving Lights and Lamin-x clear headlight and yellow passing light. Jim

Both of those will help you be SEEN during the day much better. If you ride at night, I believe you will be pleasantly surprised by how much more the road is lit up.

Also, I do not know the physiology of why it works, but for me, yellow night glasses help me see even better at night, and I think the lamin-x may have a similar effect.

I'm going to order some of the light yellow driving light tints. There's something about the LED's that get washed out in daylight.

When I first started riding a trike in group rides I took it personally that we were asked to ride at the rear. It was then explained to me by some very experienced riders how the trikes will vastly out-brake the two-wheelers, and they'll run up our mufflers in a panic stop. These guys were riding BMW's.
We were asked to embrace the responsibility of the tail gunner position.
 
That was kind of my thought too.

After looking at the passing lights, I am sure the mechanic did not adjust them. My guess he did not have the special tool, socket, needed to get to the nut without breaking the wire.
I whipped out something like the snap on socket that costs 120.00. I will adjust them early in the week. Here is the socket. Jimsocket.jpgsocket3.jpg

I ordered the tints last night. There is a 25% discount at present.

I ride with the Combat Veterans Association. Most of the time 15+ going to a mission and kicking it pretty hard. Every one has a job and that determines where you ride. Trikes are in the back to pick up the tail and block cagers from busting into the group. I think there are 6 trikes in the chapter and not everyone is there for the mission. To be honest, most Combat Veterans do not like someone being behind them, we like to be able to see what is happening, so riding in the back has it's advantages. Jim

I must be lucky, after the lift kit was installed, all I had to do was set my headlight height upwards slightly. The passing lamps are exactly as I want them. I never have oncoming traffic flash their lights at me. :clapping:
 
Trikes should always ride in the back [Sweep]
Because they have a large carrying capacity , And thus the room to fit' all the parts that fall of of the bikes in front of them' In the Trikes trunk....:D...
 
True story; 3 of us on 2 wheelers were coming home from Mertle Beech on I95 , me, the only bagger, was the mule with the luggage. I was the leader, however being a 1/2 mile ahead, I lost clothes in back of me from a open bag. One of the rear riders noticed that they looked like his. So he blasted to catch me.
The rest of the trip was much lighter load. :Shrug:

I know I can stop pretty dadgum quickly on my TG. (actually did a test on that yesterday for a Customer that called in asking a question on Friday)

I did not know that the TG will stop faster than a 2 wheeler. I'm gonna test that out next chance I get. Roads are wet here right now, so it won't be today. :)

You can get the clamps in chrome or black, the lights are only listed in black. Jim

I don't ride in groups to much, but if I do, I prefer sweep. That way I can let the 2 wheelers get ahead, so when we get to the twisties they don't slow me down. :)
