annoying rattle.

On my 16 Tri i have noticed that when im riding next to a curb or highway wall anything that will reflect sound that at any speed where i am not on the gas or off just maintaining speed there is a rattle towards the rear of the bike.If i pull the clutch in it goes away or if i accelerate it goes away,never really noticed it until i put the the polished discs behind the wheels,will take the discs off and try it.Anyone else have this issue.I had the bike up on the jack and there seems to be a lot of backlash in the axle pulley assembly i checked a new one at the dealer and it also has some.

I have the discs on also. Never noticed any noise.

I don't have the polished discs on my '14, but I do have a rattle, not 100% of the time, but it is there. I noticed that after a while, the rear brake anti-rattle springs compress, and then the brakes rattle. It did it to some extent with the OEMs, and it does it with the EBCs I am using now. If I hold the rear brake pedal, the rattle stops. I don't know if there is anything that can be done about it, but it does. I guess I am just starting to get used to it.

The drive has some backlish & it is normal. There is a "cush drive" in the rear sprocket. If it gets excessive the cushions have to be replaced. I don't know exactly what the limit is without checking the manual, but that is something you need to purchase. Both the touring manual, & the trike supplement manual. I also recommend the electrical manual.
These manuals will take you through all the specs & how to repair if you want to do the work.

I have both manuals.Plus the bike has 5500 miles on it.It seems as the clicking in the back last is coming more from the axles than the drive pulley.

Well if all else fails its under warranty so if and when it breaks they can fix it.

If the noise started after you put the covers behind the wheels, it would my place to start. Things like a warped rotor. or a gouged rotor from a rock, or even a pebble in the drive belt can all cause the same sounds.
Also look & see if those covers might be holding the wheel in a bind & not letting the wheel hold solid against the hub.
All just guesses without being there. LOL !

Just another thought,,,,, Those covers might be acting like a big speaker amplifying a sound that was there before the install.

Not yet been helping my buddy convert his 2000 Road Glide from Inj to carb,he is having issues with the injection and its near impossible to find parts.I changed my 2001 RG to a carb and loved it.With his bike and my two its kinda crowed in my 1 1/2 car garage.

I had one hell of a squeak coming from the back end. The dealership found the cause and fixed it by removing the upper right body/frame bolt (inside the trunk), applying new Loctite and re-torquing. They knew right where to look because I was the second guy to come in with the complaint.
