This is purely for input on a Rally plan.
Nothing carved in stone so let your ideas fly.
Area of planning is NW Conn , to west of the Hudson River we want to have access to Catskills area if we want to ride. . What is the most anyone is willing to spend on a room? What is the max distance that u want t travel to this rally? What month, what days ? ( Thurs to Sat. Or Fri to Sunday ) hint better motel/ Hotel rates are usually non weekends. And traffic is usually lighter.
if we can get a head count on who is even interested would help us negotiate room rates.

I'm here......traffic is really not that bad in the Catskills on weekends except for certain areas or around the larger towns like Catskill where every one is heading to Wally World on Saturdays but that is not much.

Any suggestions to what the maximum nightly amount should be, keeping in mind a better hotel will be more costly. Is a pool and/or got tub a requirement? That would give us a target to shoot for. Depending on where it is held, there may be other options for more expensive or less expensive hotels also.

sorry that is hot tub!!!

Would be interested in the Catskills. Would probably draw more folks from other areas. Nice motel in a country setting with pool would be nice. Room in $100-$125 range is okay. Willing to drive to Catskills/ West Connecticut area. June-September would be fine for us. Thu to Sat or Fri to Sun are fine for us. Count Jeannette and me in. Thanks!

Def interested:

Thursday -Sunday works best for us
Time frame open, but Sept is nice up there.

Hotel: Nice with a bar:xzqxz:

I live and work in CT but stay in Athens, just north of Catskill almost every weekend in the summer so can do any legwork that is needed. Will be there now through the end of Sept. but only about a 1.5 hours from home.

Looking at places with breakfast ( big buffet style ) and dinner included (in Banquet form) like a wedding, room including this will tip over $140 a night for one person and add another $30 for second staying that room. We don't want to stay in a Dump. We want nice this time.

I spent some time looking around the Catskill NY area via trivago and tripadvisor. From what I found using various July thru Nov dates, cost is going to be a secondary issue. Availability is the problem I kept running into.

Two location ideas. Maybe near Hunter Mountain or Monticello. Both would have plenty of hotel choices and right around the Catskills. I wouldn't mind Thur-Sun.

If we get a place soon enough and lock in 15 rooms should be no problem with a 8 month lead time.
That why we are in here to see the interest.
How do people feel about package deal ( Room and meals combo ) price will be by the person. Will include breakfast and Dinner. Sort if like a Cruise or a wedding package .

Andrew I have been keeping my eye out but its hard to tell what is available because the dates don't go out that far, but there are a lot of places near Hunter or on the other side of the mountain in Windham area too. I am looking at a place this weekend that is on Rt 23 just before Windham and will probaby go see some more places around Windham and Hunter. If the place doesn't have food available then it would be better to be in the center of town or close to it so we have a choice and can walk even. There is a NY tourism office just off Rt 87 in Leeds and not far from where I stay, I'll stop in and pick up the guides. Some of these places are in business and out the next year so making sure the place is solvent is a good idea too.

Not a big fan of motel food. Breakfast ok, dinner, we should be able to explore other places as we will not know were we will be day by day come dinner time.
Food for thought!

I am looking at a place that does big conventions and weddings so food wise I don't think anyone would be unhappy with that choice but I know what you mean. It is nice to be able to park the trikes at the end of the day and enjoy ourselves and if anyone wanted a drink or two or three ....... at least we don't have to worry about anyone getting hurt or worse. As long as the place has a big selection to choose from, so everyone has something they like.

Trike rally pick

Ok boys and girls I found a spot for next years rally today. One place I looked at was all inclusive and very structured, think Dirty Dancing including a band but the rooms were very dated, probably from that same era.

The second place I looked at is a hotel called The Hotel Vienna. The hotel has 30 rooms, some with two queen beds. It offers a continental breakfast which can start as early as 7:00 am for you early risers. Lunch and dinner will have to be eaten out but there plenty of restaurants in this area.

Its located in Windham, NY right in the middle of Catskill Park and central to a lot of riding destinations.

Being the Catskills, availlability is a problem but we have the option of around Labor Day.

There are two room price options, standard room is $126.00 and delux room with a jacuzzi tub and balcony is $141.00 a night.

These prices seem to be average in this area. They will hold the block for us until July, by then any unsold rooms are open for other guests, but if we take the entire hotel, that is OK. If we book all the rooms, there are other hotels in the area.

Check out www.thehotelvienna.com for more info. If there is a lot of interest in this place, I can run down next weekend and let the owner know and take a few pictures.

If you search under images on line you can see more pics.

Two things to look for. What is their definition of "continental breakfast"? If it is old definition, I would steer clear. And the other things....never mind. There is mini fridge and WiFi.

Not a hotel breakfast fan

I seldom eat hotel/ motel breakfast. I like cooked food.
Even when there is a buffet. I would prefer a room for $10 cheaper and go eat at a dinner or breakfast place.
so I don't judge a place by the breakfast. As we said. This area demands big money for rooms. I think Doug did a great job locating this place. Actually went and checked it out. He knows this area. Hard to plan a Rally when it is miles away. I am going to try and help as much as I can. Try to get back to our original format ( raffle , trophy , and planned rides and a dinner get together and send off breakfast ) if we get a large crowd we will divide the rides into smaller groups.

Real good place for a full breakfast is not far, country store on Rt 23 right in Windom. A group of riders from camp go there on weekends. I dont mind contenental as long as it is decent, some are just bad. Not sure how long I would want to take for breakfast, would rather ride.

Need input

Looks like this is our host motel.
We need to know what interest there is in it.
if you think you will go let Doug know
as always the more we have the better the bargaining is.
Also if we can't get a group together let us know now we can save a lot of time and effort. It is a shame to spend all the effort and then find out not enough people are going to attend and it will not be worth it and cancel it. Would like to hear from our down south members.
Planning starts now.

Just in case people are only looking at this thread, right now the hotel of choice is The Hotel Vienna (www.thehotelvienna.com) in Windham, NY. It has 30 rooms some with two beds so it is important that I lock the week we want down. I have seen the schedules for this hotel and the other one I looked at and they fill up very quickly.

This hotel is willing to keep the rooms blocked off for us until next July but before I even set this up, it would be nice to have a show of hands to how many people will go. If we need more than 30 rooms, I will ask them if they can offer suggestions for other hotels in the area. In Vt, the owner of the GGI secured additional rooms for the same price. It's better to know now so the hotel can explore this option if we need it.

I'm going to be back there this weekend and was planning on going back there to take some pictures and lock down the time frame. Right now we can get the two weeks before labor day or the week after I believe. If I can get some response before Friday it would be great.

The Mrs and I are in for the 6-9 Sept and a deluxe room. It should be a little more peaceful after Labor Day than the two end-of-summer weeks leading up to it. Also, we don't want to be traveling during the Labor Day weekend.

The missus and I would also be into it. Aug might be better, weather wise (excepting 5 yrs ago riding back as Hurricane Irene was barreling into NYC).

Weather will be a crap shoot for sure....it always seems that the weekend before Labor Day is decent and then Labor it turns but I think this year may be good. I can tell you that the weekend after Labor Day I usually do a work related class the weekend after and every year for several years in a row it has rained. I can take it anytime of the year but usually wait until the last minute.

I was told that the weekend before Labor Day is usually slow and the weekend after as well. One place was pushing for Labor Day weekend but too many things going on then, plus that's when the traffic is.

OK so I'll verify the dates again just to be sure, it sounds like most who responded are good for the cost and date choices. If anyone knows of someplace else to check out, we still have a little time. Even if I give the owner the go ahead if something comes up at the beginning of next year we can always cancel.

I am in also. And any date is GREAT for me .
soo looks like we got a rally
9 people 5 trikes so far
who else ? This is not a commitment. No money just a hand shake. But please if your know you can't say so. We will allow for 2 or3 to back out. That has happened every year
9 do I hear a 10 or 11 12

I think Moe, Gunny and seabiz will be going so we are up to 12 now, so that leaves only 18 rooms left!!!!
