Picked up a 'swamp cooler' vest from the HD dealer today. 98201-13VM. Soaked it as recommended and went for a ride. Temp 97 deg and humidity Florida high - prolly worst case for evaporation cooling, but vest worked great. I can't believe I've used $high electric cloths for heat but never had one of these evaporative cooling vests before. Cost < $50.

Good to know that they DO work well in high humidity. Always heard that they would not.

Have not had a chance to try ours in high humidity since we live in dry west Texas.

Thanks for the info.

Just saw this advertised the other day and debated putting it on our bucket list. Will most likely order one in the next couple of weeks for both my wife and I. How long would you say it lasted? Any issues carrying the additional bulk of a wet vest?

I'm staying tuned on this one, I'd like to find one that doesn't get all slimy and not embarrassing to wear from all the leakage. Maybe that cooling vest does not exist.

We purchased the TechNiche Hyperkewl Deluxe Sport Vest from Dennis Kirk in 2013. They work pretty darned good - never had a "slime" issue with them.

Never had them to make us feel actually wet. There are all kinds of these hydration or cooling vest and jackets out there. TechNiche Hyperkewl has quite a selection of other cooling apparel on their website.

These vest got me curious, do wear them next to you skin or over a t shirt.

Made a trip to Phoenix in the first part of June, 100+ days. Picked up a vest in Chandler for the trip back.

Soak vest @ 10 min. in sink, lightly ring it out, put it on over t shirt (some water runs down to the waistband), put loose shirt on over it.

Good for a couple hours, stop for fuel or break put vest in large zip lock bag and add a bottle of water. Put it on when ready to go again.

Much better ride coming home. To me worth the money.

Take care

I was interested until I saw this on the webpage:

Polyacrylite crystals last approximately one year or fifty uses

and the Q&A says then you throw it away...

We've had the Harley wet vests for 3 or 4 years. Best thing since sliced bread. We live on the desert in So. Cal. and Arizona. Humidity usually in the low teens so they work great. We wear them over dry wick t-shirts. Don't feel slimy and don't drip. Good for about 2 hours, which is longer than my ass can go with a 5 minute stop.

What is the name of the product you are speaking of?

Didn't find mention of crystals or throw-away on this product.

Remember those "Cool Collars" that have little crystals in them? Now, we never found those to be very effective.

How was the fit size wise, pretty close to normal tshirt size? So if I wear a XL tshirt, and I'm going to put the vest under the shirt, would I need a bigger shirt for a comfortable fit? Or does the vest fit tighter and I'd want a size larger vest? I always get nervous ordering things online when you can't try it on.

I wear a 'Large' T shirt and bought a Large vest. It fits snugly over a T shirt thanks to stretch panels on the sides under the arm holes. I wear a mesh jacket over it, largely for shade. The Florida sun is brutal. I've only used the vest a few times so there is better advise out there than mine. Happy riding ... errr ... driving ... errr ..
