What do you like about your state

What do you like about your state ?

Every time I come back home, I know I can leave again.:pepper::pepper:

In fact, I live within 1/2 hour of Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia so escaping is very easy !!!:clapping:

I split my time between Florida and Ohio. Shrimpy summed it up for Florida. As far as Ohio...... Give a couple of weeks to think about it. I'm sure I can come up with something.......Oh yes, concealed carry law.

Its Texas... whats not to like?

What more needs to be said?
Maybe........"just get on your trike and ride!" There is always somewhere to go that you haven't been, what more can you ask for? I've been riding for 50yrs here in Texas, and no, I have not seen all I want to see........just come ride with us!

My wife and I were born and raised in SW Oklahoma. She lived in NW Indiana for 31yrs until 2007 until we reunited. I moved to Texas in 1980 and have lived here, ever since.

Most people just don't realize how big Texas really is. El Paso is closer to Los Angeles than Dallas. Houston to El Paso is around 850 miles.

I too was amazed at the size of Texas when I crossed it on I-10. Almost 900 miles. Then to read that Alaska is twice the size of Texas boggles my mind.

Ain't that the truth. About an hour away and I haven't been there in years. It's hard for me to get a grip on a place whose motto is "Let's keep Austin weird".

Agree. I was born at, and half-raised, in Georgetown and in Williamson County. Back then Austin was just a little cow-town city...someplace to go to buy a better pair of shoes or go to an actual restaurant instead of the local cafe or burger drive-in. GEEZSH....what happened to that town? It might have been "Silicon Valley" that came in - what - back in the 60's?? It sure went to pot. And yes, you can draw your own conclusions from that descriptive word!

We may joke about North Dakota and our cold weather keeping the riff-raff out but actually while we do see some weather extremes from -30 in the winter and 100 in the summer it's not that bad. We only average about 40 inches of snow in the winter in this part of the state and out in the western part it's even less.

Bikerbozo may have been referring to the ND State Heritage Center which is located on the State Capitol grounds. By the way, ND has the only skyscraper Capitol building in the nation. It's 17 stories and can be seen from 10 miles away. Theodore Roosevelt National Park (the ND Badlands) is a great ride. Just be careful of the buffalo. Medora is a great visit along with the Medora Musical which happens every night during the summer. A great ride you can take from Bismarck is down ND Hwy 1804 which follows the trail of Lewis and Clark on their way west in 1804. You have to go all the way down to Mobridge, SD (about 120 miles) to cross back over the Missouri and then come up Hwy 1806 which is the route of the return trip of Lewis and Clark. Both are great rides. On the way back up to Bismarck on Hwy 1806 you can visit Sitting Bull's grave north of the ND/SD state line a few miles and as you near Bismarck you can visit Fort Abraham Lincoln which was where Custer was stationed before he left for Little Big Horn.

Thought I would throw in a few words about the lush green fields and long rolling hills in the western end of the great state of Kentucky. Also sometimes you have to hunt to find any cars on the back roads while you are searching for another beautiful tree lined road. OK, seems to me that I have just talked myself into a ride tomorrow! Got to go to bed because it is going to be a beautiful day in the low mid 70's and I just know there is a place I haven't seen!!!!

New Mexico, lots of good riding. Mountains, desert, water, no water, long straight roads, lots of curves, lots of history, arts. Year around riding. I have lived in a lot of places. I live here by choice. Jim

I agree with you, Jim; NM is a beautiful state. I'm most familiar with Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Las Vegas (New Mexico, of course!); the latter is where my maternal family is from but I have family in all three cities. I grew up in NM and AZ, but have most of my adult life in San Francisco and the Bay Area. However, I am choosing to relocate to NM soon for all the reasons you listed, plus affordability...something no longer possible in CA.

Missour is a state if you like to hunt and fish you need to come on over. We have some great back roads to ride and see some beautiful country. If you like city life we have that and if you are like me and like a slower pace of life well we have that also.

Yep, you've given three of my dislikes. Landed here in 69 after the military, met my wife, who was born in Springfield, and she has roots like a mighty oak. Wanted to go south when I retired, but couldn't find a big enough stump grinder to get her out of the ground. She has too many family members and friends locally that she can run to when I piss her off. :D

met my stump (oops) wife here in s.e.mo 20 sum years ago. we have talked about moving to the new Orleans area a lot but the job thing has held us back. I guess Doniphan Mo and current river will have to do. Its pretty good till the water comes up and you have to bug out. We had about 7 ft of water on our lot the day after Christmas . Made it out in time. all in all south east mo. isn't too bad.

Another Missouri rider here. We live right on the edge of the Ozarks - about 15 miles north around towards Joplin things start to flatten out and north of that prairie starts. To the south, east and a bit into Oklahoma to the west there are more very twisty roads of the Ozarks, Boston Mountains and the Ouachita Mountains. Hardly a straight road in sight, and a lot of great riding in the SW Missouri & NW Arkansas area.

By the way, ND has the only skyscraper Capitol building in the nation. It's 17 stories and can be seen from 10 miles away.

Sorry, but Florida's capitol building is a 22 story skyscraper. The old historic capitol building sits in front of it, and it is now a museum.

I love the mostly year round riding in Florida but I wish that we could hit some curves that weren't interchanges on the interstate highways.

well let's see I live in southern Va. After being on the left coast for longer then i wanted to i finally moved back home from the big citah. first words from my bride. you brought me back to the jungle. I laughed. took her to the "mall" yeah that earned a few strikes. But I grew up here . not much has changed. 13 or 14 campgrounds within about an hour ride. an hour from Raleigh NC about 2 from Richmond and 3.5 hours from Va Beach.

I live within a mile of the Lake and can kayak ride boat fish hunt in relitive peace most of the time. So yeah I like it. are their places I like more yeah. but family is here and family is what is important. that and I havent been around much for the last 25 yrs or so. mountans are a good day ride. and the ride to va beach is straight and boriing as heck but. it is the beach so who doeasnt like that right.
and it is only a day ride to robbinsville and camping there for the dragon and other mountain rides.
so yeah I guess it be ok.

This is what's ruined Virginia & North Carolina;

People who claim to hate Yankeeland, but have too much Yankee family to move to the deep South and bring their politics and attitudes with them... It's like living in Hell has made them want to share the misery.

Keep out. All full.

Midwest Illinois has a considerable amount of fantastic riding, but it is without question a shortened season because of our winters. I suppose there are pros/cons to every subject. It's not that I hate Illinois, but do very much dislike the winter months and could do without the snow.
Having retired from Ohio I have to agree that Kentucky is a great state to ride as is Indiana. Living in Florida now makes me miss the scenery of those other 3 states and the hills and curves.

Florida is a weird state to ride in: Not all the roads connect as they may appear they do on a map. You have to look closely. All the major roads will, but when riding back roads you can come across unexpected dead ends. But as was said earlier you're never far from the water if you're traveling east or west. And many places are getting better as controlling mosquitos. In the 7 years we've been here I've had 3 mosquito bites where we live. The weather is nice most of the year. July and August we don't ride as much as the rest of the year, but we do get out during those months. Other times during those months I pull the bike under the shade of a tree, open a cold one, and remind Ma it's her turn to wash the bike.

If she's workin in the yard she'll remind ME she's already workin and to was the bike myself. I don't get no respect from that woman.
