Garmin Question

I have 6,000 miles on the 14 Triglide and really enjoy it so far. The Infotainment GPS is sufficient but I really do miss the ease of use of the Garmin. I am considering getting one with the RAM mount like I had on an older Ultra. I guess everyone has their favorites but I really want a bright screen and I just don't want to pay for a Zumo (I have been told they are brighter). Never have had a vibration issue with the Nuvi's......Harley says the exposure to the elements and vibration will ruin them but that hasn't been the case for me. Other than Zumo....what models are you using and does anyone have information regarding screen brightness being better on some models? Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Alan, I have been using a Garmin 255W for years, but with mods. Once we got a newer one for the cars I took the 255 apart removed the speaker and ran the speaker wires out the back of the case. Then I soldered on a female 1/8" connector and I use a double male extension cable to run between the GPS and the AUX plug-in on the HD radio. I can hear the GPS in my helmet or on the speakers. I only use it when needed, like around towns, but it works great. I did take the time to silicone seal everyting I could on the NUVI as I put it back together. Been using it since 2010 without problems, but it is about to be retired because we are buying a 2015 TriGlide.

I've got the Garmin on the left and my XM on the right both mounted with Ram mounts. No problems, have them wired to the Accessory switch for power.

I use my Zumo 660 that I had on my 3 previous bikes as a back up for the POS Harley GPS unit. I use the car suction cup mount on the gas lid and plug into the cigarette lighter. Works like a charm. Now I see where you can hook it into the H-D unit so you can get sound through the speakers. I really don't need that.

The Zumo or any Garmon unit is 1000% easier and faster to program and you can do it in the comfort of your motel room - not sitting out in the blazing sun or pouring rain to add addresses.

WTF was Harley thinking - oh wait a minute - saving a few pennys not going with Garmin in the first place - screw the customer for a few pennys. Thanks Harley.

If you are going from point A to B - it's OK, but try saving 20 to 30 destinations.
Or try pin pointing a location on a highway 2 states away. :AGGHH:

I have a Zumo 665 with XM and installed a BOOM so I can talk on the phone. I pull off the road to do that through the mike on my helmet. 2011 TG.
VERY nice unit. U can also get weather and traffic for extra dough.

Have it mounted in my dash with an HD kit.

I got a garmin nuvi 1450lmt years ago and it still works fine with lifetime map update. of course it is outdated now but when you buy a new gps it is obsolete be fore you get out of the store. like computers.

I use my GPS about 30 times a day, or more, for my work. Garmin is my choice. I wear out the touch screens in about a year and they start displaying goofy numbers,, then time for a new one. Tried a tom tom several years ago. If I remember correctly, it lasted about 6 months.. All my Buds in the same biz as me use Garmin also. They are the GPS of choice and dependability. I have one mounted on my TG too since it was new. Never had a problem with it. ThumbUp

I,too got a Garmin 1450LMT on Black Friday some time ago. As long as the maps are made for the Nuvi series I can update 4 times per year. It does just what I bought it for, navigation. Not playing music, hooking up to my phone, weather and such. I tend to like gadgets that do just the 1 thing it was designed for. If a thing malfunctions I only loose that 1 function.

I have the same set up as you but can not talk on the phone through the mike on my helmet. I used all of the H-D mounting and additional recommended wiring but not sure what a BOOM is. When I talked with the H-D tech on the 800 number, their comment was it would not work. But you have it working,,,,, Help. Thanks DJ

Garmin has made a lot of advancements in the last few years.
I would consider one of the upper versions of the Nuvi. Like the 2597 LMT
Low cost at that
