I have a '97 GL1500 with a Roadsmith kit I had installed in 2013. I've always gotten "butterflies" while cornering mountain type curves at highway speeds because of excessive body roll making me feel like I'm about to be thrown off the bike. Last week I finally had the dealer install the performance sway bar to replace the regular one. I felt an immediate difference. I drove down every twisty road I could find on the way home and during my weekend rides. Way better. I just wish I'd had it installed when the trike was built, $49.00 option. They were able to install the new one with the brackets by only removing the tires so the labor wasn't that bad, 1 1/2 hours. Too bad I didn't do this sooner.

All this is good news. I have a performance sway bar sitting on one of my work tables out in my shop.

I just need to get the urge to do the tear down and rebuild. But for now it sure looks good sitting there. Thanks for the good news.

If ya get a chance give us some more reviews of the sway bar. What did the dealer charge to install it?

So far I'm very satisfied with the sway bar. Huge difference and confidence builder. Installed price was 1 1/2 hrs. labor at $85.00 per hour plus the $49.00 cost of the bar and shipping. I didn't realize you could install it by just removing the rear wheels. It's a pretty simple install and Roadsmith will sell to you directly if you want to do it yourself.

I install mine about 2 yrs ago and only took about and 1 1/2 hrs. Made a great deal of difference in corning and handling.

would not go back to the lighter sway bar.

I couldn't agree more. Roadsmith should install then standard. If they want to charge the extra $49.00 for the kit that's chump change compared to the total cost. I spent 2 years trying to figure out why I was the only one terrified to go around some of those corners!

I really can't comment on my Roadsmith WITHOUT the torsion bar, but my converter had it figured in on my total installation because he also rides a Goldwing converted to a Roadsmith of course.

He also recommended the front fork racked with suspension redo with a front tire installed made for trikes.

Loved the complete Goldwing/RS set-up.

Listen and pay attention to the people that own/ride trikes, they know what works and what don't.

I have the HD sway bar on mine. Never thought much about it because it had the hD version. I then rode a friends without the normal sway bar. I could not believe the difference with just a sway bar. It's not like a falcon vs a sting ray mind you but a noticeable difference.

For just $49 it is more than worth it.

you must be a young guy. LOL

They were a economy car back in the 1960's

 I wouldn't know but would like to try my Roadsmith without my sway bar just to see if I'd notice a difference,

I'm sure I would.

No Sway Bar.... it does much more than your aware of.... talk about body roll and wanting to spit you in the ditch.... not a good idea! FYI

Little FYI for you Hot Rodders the 1963 Ford Falcon depending on Model may have not had a sway bar at all ... options were if you had a larger engine and beefer frame you could order a 1" to 1 1/8" in the front and 7/8" in the rear but it was hard on frame cracking.... Now for the Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray it was much the same but the Vette's had larger engines and most came with 1" Front & 3/4" Rears but had same issues with cracking if not addressed. That's why some very well setup Falcons could blow the socks off the Vettes.... all that changed in 1964 -65 when the Mustang and Corvette battles commenced in true fashion!!

I queried Taylor on his $99 price. Here's his reply:

Hey Konrad,

Thanks for checking on that. The $49 price is the upgrade price on the purchase agreement when ordering a Roadsmith kit (upgrading from the 5/8” bar that the base kit comes standard with). To purchase the bar outright, the cost is actually $59 plus $7.16 for the ¾” bushings. My apologies on the $99 price, it used to be that but it looks like it got reduced.

Kind Regards,

-Taylor
