Flag Pole for my Trike

I've been searching for ideas on mounting a flag pole on my trike so I can do Patriot Guard escorts, with the help from a friend this is what I came up with. I got two 5' antenna poles from Radio Shack, cut the two lower pieces 26" long and adjusted the length of the top piece so the total length of the pole is 6', then I welded a piece of pipe to a 3/4" bolt to bolt to my sleeve hitch. They will stow easily in the trunk, Looks to me like it will work.

If it is not real heavy duty the flag will bend it in the wind. Most PGR Riders mount a piece of rebar then slide the flag pole over that. Even at 40 mph it put a lot of pressure on the pole. GOOD LUCK RIDE SAFE

The pipe is pretty heavy duty, it is made to mount a TV antenna on your roof, a Patriot Guard friend of mine in AR made his from the same pipe and he's never had a problem. I'll take it out on the road for several miles to make sure everything will hold together before doing any escorts with it.

I know that this is the wrong site to welcome you to the PGR, but thank you for your service. I use a wooden flagpole and have been at speeds up to 70 mph with no problem. The flag doesn't last very long at that speed, no matter how good the flag is. But the only time that you need to wave the flag is in escort or parade, which is low speed, normally. We did do a 150 mile escort for some National Guard troops one time and that one wasn't low speed. But anyway, you are right in making a heavy duty pole. I've seen them bend right over backwards. Good luck, ride safe, and post often.

Thank You bustedwing, I've stood flag lines but now I can ride escort too, the least I can do for our departed Brothers. We've been having beautiful weather in Ok so a friend and I went for a ride last Saturday and I put the flag on, we was riding at speeds up to almost 70 in a 30mph wind, the cheap Harbor Freight flag lasted about 30 miles, but the flag pole and hitch mount did their job, so I'm set to go, I will use my good flag for the escorts.
