Goldwing trike vs harley triglide

Only opinion but here tis. Honda GW has a gear driven transmission and a drive shaft for rear drive. With the added weight of a trike, this could be more reliable than a Harley chain drive transmission and belt driven rear drive. If I am wrong feel free to correct me because bad info is harmful.

Winston, everyone seems to have an opinion, don't be concerned about expressing yours.

No Mr. P.
That doesn't mean you're "Deviant"-you're the "Norm" ThumbUp

That defines you as a Zealot.
I was always taught that Loyal, Committed, Devoted, Passionate, Stalwart, etc. were virtuous Characteristics.

Pretty sure Virtues aren't affected by either Brand choice.
Seems the two "Sides" have more inherent commonalities than differences.

It's not WHAT You Ride-It's THAT YOU RIDE :AllGood:

You are damaging my image veritas! I like Deviant!

me , personally , if it is not made by Harley i am not riding or owning it. i know,i know you say that the Honda has more power and more this and that but i do not like the looks of them. to me they are just too damn big. they have way to many buttons and switches on them and it takes away the looks of the bike. i am just glad there are trike kits out there so we can buy what we want and end up with a nice looking ride that each individual owner like , be it a Harley or a Honda or whatever you ride. not starting a debate , just my 2 cents and that does not go very far now a days.

I have never owned an HD and only one Honda sport bike.

But I really don't understand why the big fascination with the loud exhaust noise, reminds me of the kids who used to walk around with boom boxes on their shoulders or the cars with the super speakers that go "thump, thump, thump" when you're near them in traffic.

Or the neighbors who pull out every gasoline device imaginable on Sunday morning: mowers, blowers, trimmers, edgers, and so on. Can never sleep in on Sunday morning.

At 75 mph on the interstate, I can listen to my radio or CD player without helmet speakers. And I have had to ride the trike at the back of the pack when on the road with my Harley friends, and after an hour or so of exhaust noise it's enough to give you a headache.

By the way, my neighbor changed out the mufflers on his '12 GW and it now has the deep throaty rumble of the glass packs on my 60's cars. Much more pleasing but still loud enough to draw attention from the odd pedestrian.

Just another 2 cents worth. Y'all know what opinions are like, right? Okay, I know, I'm just an old fart.

Thought "Old Dirty Biker Bas****" was your chosen Moniker? :D

You must be thinking of a friend we have in common

I don't like the real ear splitting one's either, they give me a headache also but the the deep melodious sound of a harley makes my blood race. I put the Bassani mufflers on my trike that came with my champion kit and they are a perfect mix. Deep but not obnoxious.
Part of that is the natural sound of the single cam engine.

Re: Goldwing trike vs Harley triglide

When I started looking for a trike, I knew I didn't want a Harley. I do like the look of the Harley. Still looks like a motorcycle. But it is air cooled, not for me. I knew I didn't like the look of a wing. Too much Tupperware. Not into Star Wars. I found out both were too expensive for me. Almost bought a Wing until I sat on it. Couldn't get away from that fast enough. I started looking at the alternatives.

I settled on a Honda 1300 VTX R Champion. No reverse. No problem it is light weight. I live in Florida. Flat. Don't need reverse. It still looks like a motorcycle. Drives and feels like a motorcycle. Feet out in front just like my cruiser. I can put my feet in three different places. If I wanted it to feel like a car I would have bought a car. I like to push/pull fell of the steering. I do like the quiet of the Wing but my VTX has a nice muffler on it and has a good sound to it. I have vista cruise, Stereo, floor boards, heal toe, highway bars, chaps, windshield, lowers. Mustang seats, adjustable backrest driver AND passenger. I can add lots of other goodies. Believe it or not, there are other trikes out there besides Wings and Harley's. I'll bet the Valkyrie make a killer trike.

Me and my Sweetie (of 32 years) took a 30 mile test ride on a 2013 Tri-Glide before deciding to trike my 2012 1800 with a Motor Trike Razor kit. I really liked the Harley but it vibrated too much for my wife and caused her back injury to flair up. The Tri-Glide and the GW are not in the same class. That does not make one better than the other. The Harley is a modern day 1967 Z28 while the GW is a 550HP Cadillac CTS. It just simply depends on your preference.

Harley seems to be having problems with the water cooling system. I wonder if waterless coolant would fix the problem? I plan on filling the GW with it when I replace the coolant if I can find no down side.

NEWS FLASH !!! Honda does not make a trike !!!!!!!! Most honda dealers will not warranty the factory warranty if it has been butchered up or modified !! The reason honda and yamaha doesn't build trikes. The U S Congress cut a deal with honda and yamaha ! A law was passed to protect them from 3 wheeler accident lawsuits ...... But they had to sign a deal. Agreeing to not build anymore 3 wheelers for public use. !!!!!!
This law is ONLY for a ATV not a road trike. Honda can make a trike if they wished , and when they see volume and money making them they will ! The buck always rules !

Honda's issues about liability in building a trike are most probably due to the beating they took in the legal system over their ATVs. Its pretty bad when you make a good product but then are blamed for the stupidity of the people who ride it and then told the accidents they got into are your fault. With our legal system I honestly wouldnt blame them at all for not marketing a trike.

I read once that there are 27 sexual preferences. I believe there is a 28th. The Poli-sexuals. That's a politician that will screw anything or any one for power and money. In SC we have Lindsey Graham. In Washington we have the likes of Barry Setoero and Pelosi (side note: Some poor slob is Mr. Pelosi). I believe every 7 years we should turn all politicians into glue for the post office. That's one stamp no one would never lick.

Again, I'm really beginning to appreciate this thread.

We just need a majority of the American public to feel this way and be willing to make the change happen. IMO this country has swayed away from what our founding fathers had in mind when they created it.

I heard today that Hillary Clinton or one of her close associated said "Conservatives no longer exist. You can either run to Socialism with your arms out or you can walk to it with your head down". I can't say on any forum how much that ticks me off. But I can say this :mad::mad::kpzxvq::kpzxvq::kpzxvq::kpzxvq::gah::gah::gah::gah:

The best short term fix for this is to Home School. My oldest was pulled out at the end of the first grade and my youngest has never set foot in public school. Both of them have two collage degrees each. As a testament to the benefits of home schooling go down to your local house of incarceration and ask everyone that was home schooled to raise their hand.

Not correct, I have had my bike repaired at a non trike dealer dealership. With the area rep standing right there. Honda WILL honor a factory waranty, only up to what honda built.

I do not think that is true.
There was no deal cut, Honda AGREED to stop making 3 wheeled ATV's not 3 wheeled motorcycles.

Here is the consent decree

Please note the following paragraph / section
Whereas, pursuant to the ATV Action Plan, the participating Companies will
(i) promote training, including through enhanced cash incentives to first-time ATV purchasers (or, in the case of Polaris, through requiring that previously untrained purchasers take training in order to receive a warranty on the vehicle),
(ii) implement a multi-million dollar, multi-year information and education safety campaign emphasizing, among other things, the risks created when children younger than 16 operate or ride on adult-sized ATVs,
(iii) not market , sell or offer to sell adult-size ATVs to or for use by children younger than 16,

(iv) not market or sell three-wheel ATVs,

(v) provide safety information on and with ATVs, including giving an ATV Safety Alert to each purchaser,
(vi) retain the services of an independent organization to continue the undercover monitoring of the same number of randomly selected dealers as was done under previous monitoring programs (vii) continue or undertake various other safety measures, and
(viii) notify the Commission at least 60 days in advance of any material changes to the ATV Action Plan (Arctic Cat Inc. has agreed to continue with its actions under the ATV Action Plan for five years); and etc...
Honda CAN sell a trike if they want to, but to put it in the words of a Dealer rep that I met at the Dealer show last year.
"Why should we make a trike when Honda sells a bike for every new trike that is made,??"

I couldn't argue that point

Which means absolutely nothing because you are already picking from a statistically negative gene pool.

I raised 3 girls all in public school... now all over 20, no babies, no drama, no twerking, all in college. one an average student, 2 of them National honor society, one a TOP TEN of her class (not 10%, NUMBER 6 in her class) the other one top 10%.
College endeavors....
Physical trainer
Middle school teacher
Nazerene minister
I get a little pissed off when better than thou folks think that the way THEY raised their children is the BEST way to raise kids.
Oh yes by the way, I know some home schooled kids that are LESS than worthless bums /Thugs.....
SO WHAT NOW??

It amazes me that a thread on Harley vs Gold Wing trike could be high-jacked to the point that it deteriorates to include "Hilliary" and home school debates. Now I feel that I should jump into the mire because both issues Tick me off.
First Hilliary. Really! I was enjoying the thread until that name came up, D@#n !
Second, we have both home schooled grand kids from two families doing very well in college. They have experience many field trips and lots of hands on life experiences with their fellow "home schoolers". Our other families' kids are also doing very well with their public education. What made the difference? The actual key is PARENTING, period and schools that actually care about education without the politics and social agendae. Caring parents will find a way, and sometimes sacrifices have to be made. Home schoolers aren't elitists, quite the opposite. They just want to give their kids a head start with good educations if local schools cannot provide it.
I don't mean to step on anyone's toes here, I recognize good intentions. Thank God for good teachers, Principals and Superintendents.

Sound like a bed wetting liberal just got his cage rattled. I have a daughter in law that's a teacher and it would make even a liberal's heart sink hearing the stories she tells about many of the kids in her class. As for my oldest son the school system told us he would never learn to read or write. We had him tested and at seven he understood college level algebra. That was his last day in the public school system. Since he did not fit in the Common Core box he was unteachable by thier methods. I'm sure there are even liberal parents that love their children and participate in their education. And many of them do turn out to be good little socialist. But do you care enough to make the sacrifices needed when they do not fit in the Common Core Box? I'm a product of the public school system. In my day every male student had a knife in his pocket and a rifle hanging on the truck gun rack in the school parking lot. No one ever got stabbed or shot. They also had a bible on the seat and squirrel or rabbit for supper. mmmmm mmmm good.

I guess disagreements like this is why we should only talk about trikes. By the way do you know why Hillary does not wear dresses? Her balls hang down to low.

I miss Regan

Well here I go, I have owned two Harleys. The 1st was a 2007 1200 Sportster (lots of extras) and the 2nd was a 2008 Ultra Classic Electra Glide (again lots of extras). If also owned several imports, 1st a 2007 Yamaha Stradoliner and 2nd a 2011 Yamaha Stryker (both of them with many extras), but none of these bikes could hold up to the power and comfort that my 2009 GW has stock. I have sense then Triked my GW with a 2013 CSC Cobra XL kit and have had a bullet proof combination. My wife won't argue the point with anyone other then to say that she has never been more comfortable on any other bike then she is on our Trike. I can also add that with all the other bling items and add-ons we have a bike (Trike) that looks great, turns heads and gets complemented on daily...
So on a closing note to each their own, you ride what you want, or what you feel comfortable with. No bashing intended as I have ridden both and I have made my decision.(Can't we all just get along and Ride...)

As for Harley verses Goldwing I would like to have both. If I every buy a lottery ticket and win I would have one of each in every color. There is a post in the Harley column from a couple that rode their Tri-Glide from Mississippi to the Artic Circle. It took me almost a day to go through all the pictures. If you can't decide between the two get both.
The main reason we converted the Wing to a Trike was the V Twin vibration caused my wife's back injury to flare up. She has no problems on the Razor with IRS and air bags.

ANOTHER ASPECT OF THE HARLEY IS YOU CAN MODIFY IT TO THE TENTH DEGREE. just the way you like it. also a million years from now you will still be able to get parts. wonder about the victory & Honda in this aspect.
.....and those parts would probably still fit the new ones too...:Joker3:

I hope there is no last word, I've seen way too many threads go south when politics get involved. People get passionate about the subject and then take offense real easy then retaliation is the next step instead of just walking away.

Even the discussion of Harley vs Honda can be a pretty delicate subject. Harley riders are very passionate about their brand and the Honda crowd is like wise about their brand, IMO they both have good points and bad.

Very well said.

I don't think there will be a last word (at least in my lifetime). Back in 1965, a life long friend bought a Harley Scat 175. In 1966 I bought a Honda 160 Sport.

He's still tried and true Harley (now rides a 2013 Triglide). 90% of the bikes I've owned have been Honda.

It easy to read between the lines and interpret incorrectly when you can not see the other persons body language or know their history. I'm as guilty of that as anyone. Thanks for your input and calming words.

Your more than welcome, sometime we all have to remember we do have one big thing in common and that is being in the wind no matter what you ride.

Its great fun to kid around. Before I ever thought about buying a Honda I used to tease a friend of mine who owned a Goldwing, I always told him his bike wanted to be a Harley Ultra Classic when it grew up, was even going to make a sticker to the effect can put it on his bike. The year I rented the 2012 Goldwing I stopped buy his house, he was floored to see me on a Wing, then when I bought one he really had some fun rubbing it in.

So I have the magic answer....
Coke or Pepsi
Chevy or Ford
Brick or siding
Ginger or Mary Ann
Honda or Harley

This is prophetic....

Hold on....

"What do you like most" :pepper:
