Is there a secret to taking the OEM seat off??
I have removed the 4 bolts in the rear sides and tried my dammdest to push it a bit backwards to lift it off from under the front pod cover.
As I understand it its just a clip of some sort holding it on with friction up front or something to that effect.
Am I totally wrong here??
Wont budge. I must just be getting weaker by the month here.

Jay - I never removed an 1800 seat, but on my 1500, you lift the rear of the seat slightly, then pull it back. Without lifting, it has no where to go when you pull it back. Good luck. If 1800's are different, I'm sure numerous folks will tell me I'm nuts.

Open the trunk and remove the bolts that hold the passenger backrest. Take the backrest off then lift the rear of the seat up and back.

Rear of seat must be pulled up before the seat can slide rearward to disengage the front tab.
As noted, removing the passenger back rest makes this much easier.

Some remove the passenger back rest others don't. To me it's easier and there is less danger of damaging the seat if the back rest is removed.
If you have heated seats then take care not to rip the wires out. The connectors can be a little tricky but nothing you can't handle.

Enjoy! As mentioned before, disconnecting the electrical wiring for a heated seat can be a little challenging - just take your time to understand how the clip works!

Remove the 4 bolts(2 per side) and then tip the little pillow on the back of the seat forward.
Lift up on the back of the seat and slide back and up.
(This way you don't have to remove the passenger back rest.)
Now lift it off.

You might want to do this also-
The bolts that hold the seat on are hard to get threaded back in their mounting holes.
Either put a taped pointed end on them or order a set of tapered bolts..

I agree...I think without removing the passenger backrest, you are putting too much stress on seat seams in the back of the seat that have to be bent forward. It's only two screws for the backrest, so why not be safe.

Thanks all.
I knew you guys would come through for me.
Honestly I just unbolted the 4 bolts and tried to lift it up.
Didn't occur to me that the back of the seat needed a tug.
Ot to remove the rest.
Sometimes the simple just isn't seen by me.
Good tip about the wires Id have pulled them out in my frustrations.

I need to see how the back rest was put in.
Seems a tad loose. Side to side.

Edit:
The back rest was indeed loose.
Getting the seat off and more so back on wasn't easy for me.
Im getting really weak in my not quite so old age.
Sure sucks to be me.

I got it off and on.
Simple crap took me an hour.
Very hard for me to push on the back getting the clips in place.
No real arm strength left.

Also for future reference if someone asks.
No one bothered to mention the 4 spacers that were there.
That go in the seat base for the handles.
Well 3 of them anyway. 4th was just laying there........along with one rear bumper out.
PO or whoever worked on this bike sure wasn't very careful of the little things.
I have a funny feeling my rear seat heat probably doesn't work.
That little knob control was in the on position.................as long as Ive had it anyway.
Im not surprised since Ive never looked, front controls work fine though.
Sure is a lot of crap under that seat.
Now I know where all the CB and CD wiring is at least.
This thing has more fuses then the space shuttle Id bet.

Re: OEM seat removal??

Gee we're sorry Jay!! Guess that one slip by me....

Most of us have had that sucker off and on so many times we forget those bungs... It's habit for me to just slip my fingers under the seat lip as I slide it into position and make sure all four bungs are in place. If they aren't you'll never get that seat down to align the holes with the frame mounts.

If it ever gets cold enough for the heated seat to work at all there in FL I bet that back works OK. The system is on thermostats as I recall so it goes dormant once the temp reaches a certain point. Hope you don't have need to find out one way or another but I expect you will since the bike is you daily driver like mine is... :xszpv: :xszpv:

I see I still have a lot to learn about this bike.
I will eventually run into more "issues".
The complexity of a GoldWing is one reason why I find the simplicity of a V-Twin more appealing to me.
But Ill learn eventually.
After all its only been a year so far.
This bike has so little in comparison to the 1500.
My Valkyrie had almost nothing similar to this one.

I guess in a few months I will see the new Valkyrie.
I just might have to start all over again...............sigh.
