For those of us traveling, what restaurants do you recommend either in your immediate area or ones you've found amongest your travels? Please give a brief description, location and recommended dish and maybe even add a link if you want.

I'll start: In my area I recommend Hunt's Seafood and Oyster Bar in Dothan, Alabama, its located at the intersection of the Ross Clark Circle Bypass and US 231 South. Hunts is a well known, mom and pop establishment that serves excellent, fresh from the Gulf seafood of all kinds and the best raw oysters I've ever had and I've tried them all over. They run their own trucks to to Gulf every couple of days for fish from Panama City and the oysters are from Apalachicola Bay, just south of us and they are fine!

Re: Calling All FOODIES

Well, if your are traveling on Route 66 and passing thru Cuba, MO try MoHicks for BBQ. When we were in Wyoming we found the Cowboy cafe in the town of Dubois. If you are in East Glacier MT, try Seranos for some great Mexican food and if you find yourself in Lewiston MT try Harry's Place for some good food and a great salad bar. And, if you are passing thru Acro, ID you have to stop at Pickle's Place for the Atomic Burger.

Re: Calling All FOODIES

I've always liked the Maine Diner. Located in Wells, Maine.
Rosy will back me up on this one.

Re: Calling All FOODIES

Zook, thanks for starting this thread! This is long over due! One of my favorite things is to cruise the byways and backroads looking for those tiny out-of-the-way joints that you'd never find unless you just stumbled onto them. And brothers and sisters lemme tell ya, I've found some doosies! Some suprisingly good, and some not worth the gas it takes to get back off the lot.

So, if you're ever traveling through my area (central MO between Jefferson City and Rolla, and points all around) and you're looking for something off the beaten path, shoot me a PM and I'll try my best to point you in the direction of some good eats! We're talking serious dumps, dives and holes in the wall, but hey, sometimes that's where you find the best!

Ride safe and eat well! :wave4:

Doug, Marge and I are definitely foodies and love to find those hidden gems. We avoid the chains whenever possible and mostly rely on Trip Advisor to help us find the best local spots to eat. One of the few chain restaurants we do love though is Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchens. They are all over the country now, but are mostly concentrated in Texas. They got some FINE cajun vittles!

In Kansas City...hit Jasper's...A Top 20 Italian restaurant rated by Zagat..and others, and Oklahoma Joe's for the best Barbecue in the Universe!

If ya ever travel on I-64 thru eastern Ky. don't miss the Smokey Valley Truck Stop at the Olive Hill exit- Rte 2-right off the interstate. They have daily specials that are fantastic and the Smokey Burger is to die for.

La Villa in Morrisville Pa just across from Trenton N.J. Very good Italian food and price's are resonable. (It used to be a Pizza Hut; I like P.H. but glad the change occured).
cooltech:cool:

I love finding the mom and pop eats...we try and not eat at chain restaurants...
Some I've found and recommend:
1. The lighthouse in Sulpher Well, ky / all you can eat Catfish, Chicken or country ham, their cole slaw is to die for!
2. Mike lenings, Louisville, KY. Best white fish around
3. Missy's out of the way cafe, Loretto KY, steaks are great
4. Strouds in KC Mo, great home cooking
5. oklahoma Joes in KC, get the Z-Man, wow!
6. Bruno's in Billings MT, great Italian food
7. Portello's in Chicago, Itailian beef sandwhich, wow it was great.
8. Lamberts in Sikeston MO, home of the thrown roll, cool place, great country food
9. Broadway Cafe, just south of Alanta off I-75, great food and deserts
10. Applewood restaurant in Pigog Forge TN, Great food.

There are a ton more I can't remember....
