Proposed new sticky: Trike Training Courses

As someone experienced on 2 wheels but new to trikes, I am becoming more aware of the critical differences between proficient riding on a bike and a trike. I managed to find a trike class near me but it was difficult to find without knowing about it in the first place. Taking a certified course increases skills, confidence, and safety. What I propose is a sticky in General Discussion with information on the availability of trike (and sidecar) courses in each state. Members who find information on course availability around the country can post that information on the sticky, which would be the location to find the latest and greatest info.

They offer a really wonderful trike training course in Knoxville, TN. It was worth traveling from Ohio. There aren't any closer courses offered. The couple that teaches this course are riders with decades of riding/teaching between them. Here is a link to their courses, offered in March, April and May:

This is the only one I have been able to find in Missouri. I think I will be taking it next summer sometime.

I couldn't find a comprehensive list for Texas. If you google 3WBRC for your location you may find a class. I took one last year from Motorcycle Rental in Houston. The class was at a Harley dealer in NW Houston but it looks like LaMarque may now be the only location for this company's trike class. This is a basic class and good for your M endorsement providing you have a medical reason for not training on 2. No medical proof required. Said my back will no longer let me hold up 2 and the state accepted it.

Trike Courses

Might be the only one in Missouri, BUT, the course description says:

Under no circumstance will vehicles with the following designs be allowed in the 3WBRC:

■Automotive hybrids or automotive conversions
■Vehicles with automotive controls or seating
■Vehicles with rear or front mounted engines (engines must be mounted mid-frame below the rider)
■Vehicles with enclosed or semi-enclosed riding compartments
■Any other radical departure from the standard controls of motorcycles

Now ain't that a kick in the pants...

I have seen a lot of new member postings over the weekend. If you have found a trike training program not already listed, please post it here. One purpose of this forum is to be a clearinghouse of info that will help us all.

I took it at Mancuso Crossroads which is probably where you're talking about. Fun ride down 59 and across the beltway from Kingwood on a rainy Saturday morning. :laugh: I would say very basic. Turns, tight turns, panic stops, quick swerves, etc. Mostly under 20mph. We were told an advanced course was being worked up and should be available in the spring. If they get it I'll take it. I had less than 1000 miles when I took the course last August and I'm up to 7500 now. And only about 500 or so of that in the last month or so due to the weather.

Just did a quick Google search and it seems there's quite a few options for trike classes in Colorado. ABATE offers them and several other private companies.

Woo Hoo,...looking good for training every where but Illinois. Any flatlanders know of a trike course around the Chicago area??
