I have never liked Self-Canceling Turn Signals on any of the Gold Wings I've owned. My New Trike is no exception. I suppose they are a great idea for Folks that forget to cut them back off (yes, I've ridden behind some of those for miles and miles before too...), but they are waaaay too sensitive for me. Cut on a signal, least little handlebar movement, off they go, re-apply.....spend too much time watchin' the dash for "blinking" durin' turn offs. The right actually requires slightly less movement, the same on my 2008 Black Gold Wing I owned. I haven't really researched this, but is there a "Quick/Simple" way to make manuals outa' these...???...THANKS.....:)

Must be a 1800 thing. My turn sig. wont go off until 35MPH and sometimes even faster.

Yeah, apparently the 1800s have a switch/sensor connected to the Fork/Handlebar movement.....I could probably live with Your MPH system....

Funny mine go off way b4 I turn, thats my bit@#$ was at an installer friday and asked if there is any adjustment or programing that can have them stay on longer b4 I turn, NOPE, its tied to speed and distance traveled and is hard wired by MOMA HONDA,,,,,:( she never lets me have any fun:no:

but MOM honda is gonna get me killed, I like giving cars et al plenty of notice of my up coming turn, only because MOMA says time and speed will cancel the turn signal before I turn, giving those behind me the impression I have changed my mind about the up coming turn,,,,I hate have to keep pushin it on a secon time,,,all while TRYING to be as safe as possible:no: and there is no fix,,,,nice:confused:

Yep, and the same when I lead rides...I signal, They signal behind me, mine goes off, They cut Theirs off and start to resume accelerating...."aggravating" at the least, "dangerous" at the most.....

you just need an older Bike, my '96 GL1500 never turns off, I guess that part is broken. So I have programed my thumb to hit the switch once I come out of the turn.

I enjoy the Turn Signals on Mitzie's Aero Trike, and the Aero we have For Sale....They keep blinkin' until You push the button to cancel em' Yourself......;)

When I'm leading a group of riders I always use hand signals, never totally rely on turn signals.

My complaint was that my VTX did not have them--i have to admit i was one of those who would ride for miles with my turn signals on.
I recently went to radio shack and bought a couple "beepers" so when my blinkers are on now i hear an annoying "beep beep beep" until i shut them off

My 97 Valkyire had the manual turn signals. I also installed the 'Blinker Buddy'. It's a vibrator that installs underneath your seat. When the directionals are on, the seat also vibrates. There's "NO" way you can forget that your turn signals are still on!! lol :D

Problem with the vibrator system is you might not want to shut it off :D

LMAO!! I've heard that comment more than once!!!!

My sister-in-law came over and didn't know about it. I told her to sit on the trike and try the directionals. At first, she nearly jumped off it like a cat! Then she just smiled and kinda shimmied her rear nice and tight into the seat. We were laughing so hard we couldn't stop!!!! :woohoo::yay:

I'm not understanding. The gl1800 is suppose to cancel the turn signal by banking a certain degree or by time (I believe 9 seconds), or distance. Since triking mine it naturally doesn't bank so it only cancels usually way after turning.

Mine does the same thing. They cancel after the turn. I also noticed if it's not a complete left or right or a wide turn, then they don't cancel. Go figure!

I found, for whatever reason, my turn signals will stay on indefinitely at a stop light if I give the switch 3 or 4 pushes. May not work for anyone else but, this stops my turn signals from going off while waiting to turn.

I found mine will stay on as long as I don't move the handlebars from dead center. The countdown starts once I begin the turn.

Go to gl1800riders.com forum they have a fix for it there. Search Self Canceling Turn Signals. I fixed mine and It's much better
Fixed my speed sensor for the turn signals yesterday. Get to the rubber cap on the steering stem and open up the wiring loom that feeds down the steering stem and find the white wire with the black stripe and cut it. Cut it back far enough so you can splice a piece of wire back in should you want to hook the canceling back up. Works great and took all of 30 mins. I was a little goosey before doing it but everything else works and no more self canceling. I've been riding for 50 years and have no problem with pushing the button off. Go for it. pepperThumbUp

What year/size Wing do you have? I have seen this fix for a older 1500 and wonder what years and size wings this may apply too................ Just curious is all.

I hate the self canceling because I like to signal way a head of time for safety. I am sure the roads here in the states are way different than in Japan. Its definitely distracting to have to keep reapplying the turn signal when you should be concentrating on other dangers on the road!

Sounds like a great idea! The turn-signal light is positioned on the dash where it easily catches my eye so I'll know when it's on - unlike bikes I've owned in the past.

I like them when I went from a wing back to sport bikes years ago I was one of those who never remembered to cancel my turn signals. Now that I am back on a wing I can again tell folks how smart I am to cancel the signal all the time ! LOL
