Unhappy Harley owner

The Harley Tri Glide is one beautiful trike. I don't really like blue but that 2013 blue and silver is just the 'BOMB'...

The GL1800 with a Diamond seat is perfect for my back, the HD puts pressure on my lower back due to my feet being forward. I have owned a ton of Harley's and the EPA will force them to water cool eventually just to meet standards IMO.

I always spend a lot on my bikes, I have already spend a ton on my new Hannigan.

I say if you want a Tri go get one and spend 5 grand, you will spend it anyway with time. Make it run as cool as possible and ride it, life is too short to sweat the small stuff... Just where would we be if that HD wasn't built in 1903?

Jack a big 'Congratulations' on your soon to be new GL Roadsmith, it's gonna be very nice.

I agree with Chazman in regards to enjoying your ride. Also I would like to say that ChazMan you have a very nice looking Ride there......tis

Just talked to an unhappy Tri Glide husband and wife. Harley has been laid up for 8 weeks getting a new motor. Motor fried with 30,000 on it. Said it got super hot and froze up solid .. Good news they have the extended WARRENTEE .bad news a lot of riding not done this year.

TWO months to replace a motor?......MAN, they sure can SELL them fast......

Well she said we have not seen it in 8 weeks. We have a bike show in town, and they will not have it back by then. Why did they not give them a new crate motor. Watching OCC they put a motor in a bike in 20 min. < LOL > I f I was Harley I would want them back on the road fast. Got a buddy that totally rebuilt my buddies Goldwing motor in his shop in a week. Dropped it off on a Friday and was back on the road the following Monday. Before I get flamed. He blew the starter motor. He is deaf and had a habit of hitting the starter instead of the horn one too many times. A Harley buddy said he could fix it. He took out the old , shoved the new one in and didn't line up the reverse gear. Torqued the bolts and snapped the gear inside the motor. The cases had to be split to replace the gear.

I know I'd be big time ticked off, should never take that long to get either parts or a replacement engine.

Ticked off would be an extreme understatement for what I would be. All the dealer has to do is place an expedited order from Harley and have it shipped overnight. There is absolutely NO excuse for an eight week turnaround time for a replacement such as this.

THat is just part of the POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE they offer now whether it be the dealer or MOCO.

They have customer service????........Hmmmmmm.....I thought it was every man for himself.....LOL:D

I agree 100% with that statement...I've bought Harley's at three dealerships here in Tennessee and everyone of them is exactly the same....NO CUSTOMER SERVICE......And they could care less......The three
dealers is Boswell's of Cookeville, Smoky Mountain Harley, and the one on Clinton Hwy. in Knoxville......

The tow I dealt with were Hampton Roads Harley ((quoted me 42,000 as an out-the-door price on a tri-glide)) and Bayside Harley ((was more concerned in trying to get me to get a loan than dealing with a cash deal)).

After that I decided to completely give up on the Tri-Glide and put all of my available energy into getting the very best deal I could on a GL1800 Trike.

I think I made the best decision I could have made.....the results are inherently obvious.....

I feel badly for the folks that have had such rotten experiences, either with Harley-Davidson or with a dealer. In my 25+ years of HD ownership, I am fortunate to have had nothing but good experiences with my dealer, ABC Harley-Davidson in Waterford, MI.

475 miles after my dealer converted my 2006 FLHTI, the motor began to make noise at low RPM and indicated low oil pressure. The trike went back for diagnosis. It was determined that a crank bearing failed. My heart sank! ABC told me that they will warranty the motor. My heart flew! I asked how that was possible, and was told that the MOCO extends a hardship warranty for cases like mine. To say that I was pleased, would be putting it mildly.

ABC HD's customer service is second to none.

My experience with other HD dealers has been good. I really have never run across anyone trying to rip me off, or take advantage of a situation. In 1996, on a trip to Oklahoma, Moore's HD outside of Oklahoma City, changed out my rear tire on a Sunday to keep me on the road to my destination. In 2001, the dealer in Little Rock, AR put my bike at the head of the line for service and oil cooler installation in insanely hot weather during another trip. I was on the road by 10:00 that morning.

My experience with HD has earned them a customer for life.

I have had similar experiences with a couple of the Honda "dealers" here as well. So, I guess around here it's standard practice to treat people like crap.

The Honda dealers that have been crappy are Casey Cycle City in Newport News and Honda of Virginia Beach. BOTH of these are, evidently, more worried about getting loans and selling accessories. Which, frankly, is a crock of crap.

It does go both ways. There are bad dealers and bad customer service no matter what brand you ride. One just has to be careful and shop around first.

Maybe we should all get together and go to Dairy Queen, since I've started riding my GL1800 it always seems to want to turn into every DQ I come to:D. But then when I ride the Harley it seems to want to turn into every dealer and have me buy a Tee shirt, I just can't win:laugh:.

I still say you have the best of both worlds. A GL1800 and a Harley! :10:

You are a very lucky person not to have had issues with Harley's or their Dealers.....

I definitely do, its amazing the difference between the 2. Their both a hoot to ride, the Wing is smooth as glass and loves the corners and the Harley will stretch your arms out when you twist the wick.

Here are the Harley dealers that I have dealt with in middle TN. RC Cycle in Murfreesboro, C&S Harley, Boswells HD Fesslers lane, Appleton HD, BUMPUS HD in Mutfreesboro.

I have been treated exceptionally well at all these locations. I remember when Phil sold me a 1991 Superglide at $1600 under MSRP, I remember when I asked Bubba at Boswells how an Electra Glide Utra handled (owned a Hertiage) this was in 2000 when most people would not even let you test ride one. bubba had a salesperson pull it outside, throw me the keys and said bring it back in 3 or 4 days and let me know. Never asking to make a copy of drivers license or sign anything, I brought the bike back in 4 days and said I want one. I remember buying my 2005 Screaming Eagle Electra Glide and Bumpus went the extra mile to improve the ride quality for me. Timmy Glen, the GM at BUMPUS in Murfreesboro is Excellent.

Sloans in Murfreesboro, have and do treat me fantastic. Andrew old GM at Americas in Rivergate was super and bent over backwards.

I have ridden 42 years and have a lot of praise for a lot of dealers several not mentioned. I have never really had any problems with HARLEY'S or the Dealers. Of course I bought new and traded at about 20k miles but there was a time that you could trade every year for $500 or less.

All I can say is I am not real pleased with MOCO and the way the newer products are having the heat issues but I like the product and the dealers that I have ever had any dealings with. Guess I am fortunate...

I respect all of you that ride, from scooters, rat bikes, the less fortunate that have to piece together a $600 two wheel bike to get in the wind, even the poser that rides a 1000 miles a year, the handicaped that are forced to 3 wheels, those with one leg that ride two wheels, even 1%, and to us that have covered a half million miles or so... For all you that think your ride or you are superior to other riders, bikers or motorcyclist you need to grow up and get a life, I don't care if you wave at me, because you think your too cool, maybe one day you will understand...

That's hitting the nail directly on the head!!!!! :LooksGreat:

Sept. 28, 2012

I just read the article about Harleys and their dealers. I have a couple of friends that have Harley's and LOVE them. HD makes a real solid good looking machine. The fact that they are Made In America is a good thing. It is nice to see that America is still making great products. I know that the Harley riders like the sound of their machines and love to add on all kinds of chrome and other goodies as do all of us Goldwing owners. I would think it is easier to do maintenance on the HD due to the fact they are not covered with all kinds of Tupperware. ( I learned that expression from when I had a 2011 Canam Spyder RTS/SE5 for a year). That bike cost a fortune to repair or have maintenance done on it by the dealer. Most of the labor is taking off all the Tupperware to get where you want to. Harley riders like the image of the Harley's. They are powerful and are very MACHO. I enjoy waving to all the HD's and most of them seem to wave back when I am riding my GL1800 Trike. Some like chocolate and some like vanilla. The important thing is that we ALL enjoy cycling and the great feeling of being out in the open air. Everyone should respect each other and remember that we are all Bikers and enjoy what we ride.

I love my Champion out of Orange Gove Ca. It flows the best with my 1800 Gold Wing!!! I built it myself to save money and you probably could two. Good luck!!! Jerr!!
