Extended Warranty?

Re: Ext warranty, Brakes

Yep got a few sets off ebay that had the "A"suffix after the part number.

I just got a flyer in the mail about the HD Extendo Warranty for $1850/5 extra years. Any one have experience or opinion? I never get these but am seriously considering this one....

Thanks

Probably depends how much you ride. I do 15 to 20k per year. For me, that extended warranty is gold. Radio alone was worth 1/2 the cost. That was replaced on my last bike. I have always gotten my money back in savings.

I:Agree: with Bikerbozo, 3 radios on my 03 Ultra plus other electrical problems and starters.
I have it in my 2012 TG now. It's a Harley and a trike with perseived problems so it's a no brainer for me. :D

So what you guys are saying is that you expect your bike/ trike to break down??? I have a better Idea. Go to vegas put the $1800.00 down on the table and gamble! Which is what you are doing any way when you buy a extended warranty.

As a guy who use to work for two major auto manufactures.. we love Extended warranties sales... goes straight to the bottom line and we can go out and buy very expensive toys with the warranty money that we'll never pay out!

Now that the Sarcastic remark is out.. the truth is that just because you have a piece of paper doesn't always mean that it will be honored to your satisfaction. :censored:

Same argument can be said about insurance. why buy it. Maybe just peace of mind. Maybe just in case. Do you need it? I dont know. Im insurance poor. The extended warrenty is just another insurance policy.

Allow me to Retort William...

Insurance is required by law... Extended warranties are not.

While there are many levels of insurance you can obtain you have to buy at least some basic form of it to ride you trike or bike legally in many states.

With that said I believe your primiss to be invalid.

prem·iss. Logic . a proposition supporting or helping to support a conclusion.

Health ins, not required. Travel ins., not required. Full coverage comp and coll, not required by law (maybe by lender) but not by law. you dont even have to have liability insurance if you can prove financial responsibility. GOOD DAY SIR. I SAID GOOD DAY!

I myself purchased the extended warrenty for several of the reasons mentioned, one other side note...I was told by the finance mgr when i purchased my Tg that if for some reason you did not have to file a claim on the warrenty it is 100% refundable, any of you guys heard this from your dealer, may be a good research factor if you are planning on purchasing...

I have never seen that..if so.. that would be a great plan to have.

I would get something in writing, , make sure they are bonded, have that too.
Talk is cheap, next thing you know there are not any coverage.
Even if it is a fully selfcontained. There could be some reason.
People says one thing, does something different.

I will do some follow up with my dealer and look over my contract, this was offered by H-D of Greensboro when i purchased mine less than 4 weeks ago..

We bought the extended warranty on the '09. First year of production. No mechanical problems, but we are on the second radio outside the standard warranty. Paid for itself. Because of that, we got it on the '11 trike. I'll let you know in 2016 if it was a good idea or not. We have a fantastic dealer network out here. Same guy owns 2 of the 6 dealers nearby. They even offer pick up and delivery for service and warranty work. We've never gotten "it's normal" or "Couldn't replicate" crap. Very happy with the service. Oh, we got the extended warranty for 1/2 price on the '11. Dealer tossed that in with a gift card for accessories when we bought it.

I can't believe you would get your money back - what would be the incentive for the dealer to do such a thing? If that were the case every person buying a Harley would get it.

I used my EW at several dealers one even in Canada. No problems.

Mine is from Harley not some third party company.

The 3 page pamphlet I have shows everything that is covered and what is not covered.

Like screwball said, I went through many radio (CD)problems and more. I figured if it was OK for my Ultra, then it would definately be advisable for a TG. And as I said, it gives me peace of mind when I will not have a job/money. At least I'll be able to ride for another 7 years before having to store the bike. :)

I also buy auto/home insurance and have never used it, so what's the difference. Either one could be money down the drain or a life saver.

I've also been thinking about this on my 2012 TG. I've NEVER gotten the extended warranty on things before but seriously thinking about it on my trike as it nears end of warranty. I'm fairly handy but just don't know how much work i can do on this thing and there is a LOT more to it than my other bikes!
Sounds like the radios aren't worth a damn?

D.

I got a five year extended warrenty on my 2013 TriGlide along with the tire and wheel insurance. I've had several radios go out on my Electra Glide Classic and Ultra Limited and figured the same thing would happen with this one. I got the tire and wheel insurance because I had less than 100 miles on a brand new tire and got a nail in it. Don't want to go through that again especially with three tires. For me, the peace of mind is worth it.

They are replacing the rear jug, piston and head as I type, all under the extended warranty. Plus they have replaced the radio, all shifting linkage, compensator, primary gear, transmission gaskets, pan gaskets. All under extended warranty. There might be more that I'm forgetting. 44,865 miles. I think it is worth it.

My wife got the extended warranty on her 2011 TG. She picked the trike up in Sept or Oct of 2010, not 100% sure. But the warranty has not been used for anything as of yet.
Some of you may remember the steering nut debacle a couple of weeks back when we were in the middle of Louisiana. Anyway a few days after we got home I called the dealer to address the issue. I was informed that the extened warranty would be no good for that issue unless everything fell apart. He did however offer to torque everything back to spec at 1/2 hour labor. Cheaper than the deductible he said.
Ok I guess thats a good deal but WTH is the warranty good for, radios and tires only? Thats what I'm seeing about 90% of the folks that have it are using it for. I can't believe when something starts falling apart like a front end or triple tree area that is not covered unless it falls off or the bearings are destroyed. Wow.

I don't think any warranty covers loose bolts.

Mine covered my starter, hinges on the tour pac, half a dozen electrical problems, and a couple other minor problems. None on my TG - yet.

I'll bet the Ceo's sit back & laugh at how ignorant the public can be! To be able to build an inferior product, with a premium price, then sell an extended warranty for "peace of mind".

arnie, I take it you don't own a Harley. Or if you do, did someone gave it to you? Because you wouldn't buy an overpriced inferior product -would you???

So far my repairs have cost more then the cost of the warranty. Granted not all Harleys have problems as with any other mechanical device.

Now if you are in the 1/10 of 1% of the population that can repair cars/motorcycles you are fortunate because 98% of us don't have the ability of repair their Harley so that's where the extended warranty comes in.
I have the money now - porbably not in the next year or two.
In my case I'm 69 and my job is a day by day situation. I have the extended warranty and a long term service contract. So I KNOW for at least the next 7 years I will be able to ride and not worry about having to repair my bike (if a problem occures)or sell it due to no money.
