Harley Recall

I have heard from several Trikers that Harley is replacing their voltage regulators under recall. I haven't received recall but I understand they are replacing at service. I have looked for recall notice on NET, but can't find. Has anyone else received this notice?

Funny you should bring that up. When my TG goes in for 40+k service next week, one of the issues I was going to ask them to look at was regulator and battery. Charging seems a little weak. I am suspecting a problem getting ready to happen.

Remember, recalls indicate a safety issue. This is not a safety issue, just a mechanically malfunction. They will not call you. Your service will check to see if your bike is on the bulletin list. I had my VR replaced last week while traveling home from Ft Wayne, IN.

Mine went out two weeks ago in 100 degree weather, while in Yorktown, VA I called my dealer, he confirmed that I was in the range of the service bulletin. Got to the dealer in Yorktown. They put me at the top of the list, was off and rolling in less than two hours. My check engine light and the battery light would come on, then go off, then on, etc. Both dealerships knew right away what was going on.

Went to the HD website and looked up recall info on my bike by VIN. It says I have a product program (product notice: 0912; prd pgm: 2012 regulators) that applies to my TG.

Just took mine in with battery not charging, replaced the battery and regulator, the dealer said they were having regulator problem mostly with the 2012 models.

Stopped at my HD dealer last Friday and they said it was a Service Bulletin, they checked the numbers on my '12 Triglide and mine was OK... Took a total of 5 minutes....

I have a 2011 T/G and have 32,500 miles on it and so far have had the motor replaced and now the voltage regulator is not working right. It took the dealer 5 weeks to replace the motor . So I bet it will take them 3 weeks to replace voltage regulator. Oh I forgot first have to find new dealer for the service work sense I told last dealer to stick his dealer ship up his ,.,, well you get what I told him. After a little over a year of ownership of my T/G I am wondering if this thing will last 2 years.!!!!

I have a 2009 and yesterday while riding around town for various organizations, my check engine light came on. I noticed my voltmeter was reading a little below 14V usually when I look at it it's above 14. My oil pressure gauge was reading very low until I gave it some throttle, never had a bike with a gauge so I dont know it is supposed to act like that or not.

Just got this trike a few weeks ago and will be taking it in to be looked at. Have had several people tell me I blew the oil pump, the sensor went bad, etc. I hope they'll look at the regulator too now .

The voltage reading will vary at times but should not drop below 10 or 11 volts.
The oil presssure will vary depending how hot the oil is and pressure changes when the the rpms change

I would take in the trike to check out the engine light problem..The code should be still stored in the ECM. There is a way to check the code if you have a manual..

Ah good trikermutha, sounds like I wont blow it up taking it in to get it checked out. I'll pick up the manual, and see if I can find the procedure to check it.

If I remember you have to watch the engine light and count the flashes and pauses and that would be the code. Then match the code to the code problem..

Hope its nothing to bad on the trike..

Speaking of recalls...

Mine came up with the P0572 code.
Brake switch is bad, sure enough my brake lights are on all the time now.
Recall for this 2009 to 2011 models I believe.

Call the dealer and find out if yours has the recall..have you received a recall notice in the mail??

I took mine in and they replaced it the next day after reading the codes. At first they said it wasn't the voltage regulator but after going over all the codes they changed the voltage regulator.

One other thing, Watch the lock on your trunk, mine popped out today, broken, had to have the dealer order another one today, about two weeks before I get the new one in and installed. Nothing like running around without a lock.

While at the dealer for week while I was out of town, it turns out my voltage regulator was indeed going. Replaced under warranty. Not part of recall. Just 43,000 miles over 2 years.
Battery good. This is 1st item replaced under extended warranty also. Got it before it got me on road. Just riding a couple hundred miles this week for business (up to Albany, NY).
Note also they just replaced my parking brake cables with updated, stronger springs. We'll see how those work. Note also that problems with radio not receiving stations seems to be resolved by me turning Off radio before stopping trike and only turning it back on after trike is started. No idea why this works, but trikes do suck a lot of power when starting. Same applies to when using Reverse motor on my '10 TG.

While ridin' up the California coast last week, kept running into 4 guys from Minnesota at various gas stations, food stops, motels and scenic overlooks. Interesting how we kept seeing the same people on bikes over several days and hundreds of miles. But that is a different story. One of them had a brand new '12 Ultra Classic two wheeler, and while they were coming over Sonoma Pass, a day after we did, his voltage regulator conked out. Jamestown HD to their credit, sent a tow truck up into the mountains to get the bike, took it back to the shop, and put in a new one way late after hours to get him back on the road. Not a single dime of cost to him of course. They told him they are now replacing every one of the V R's on the 2012's that they can get their hands on to save on tow bills. Supposedly just a problem with the '12's.

I received my letter yesterday.

But it was a day late as I had taken my 2012 TG into a shop on Friday to get the voltage regulator checked. Mine was built between the dates indicated but they explained that the campaign applies to specific serial numbered voltage regulators within those dates. So there are good ones and bad ones.

Mine had to be replaced.

Notice what I posted earlier? Well, I jumped to the wrong conclusion. I got my letter yesterday for the VR recall. Mine was changed a couple weeks ago so I can ignore the letter.
