I guess I am not a novice rider anymore. Just got back from a 900+ mile round trip to South Carolina! We attended the 72nd Annual Motor Maids Convention held in Spartanburg. Wonderful time with over 300 other Motor Maids and some of their hubbies, etc. Unfortunately, our parade in Chesnee got canceled due to rain but aside from that, all other activities went off great.

After the convention, we visited friends in nearby Traveler's Rest. Here's a pic of us as we're about to embark on our journey home. Our trip was not without some challenges. 100+ degrees the first day of the ride cut our ride short. Had to make up for it the next day. Riding home I got stung by I don't know what! That was NOT a fun situation! Managed to pull over onto the shoulder. Didn't find a stinger but had a huge bite/sting from something! Thunderstorms in southern KY sidelined us that day. Next morning, had to wait out dense fog with zero visibility. Had to pull off a few times on the way home, again due to storms. Made it home in time to (almost) run into President Obama's motorcade, complete with motorcycle escort! And here, we thought we were getting a special "welcome home!" <g>

That's a great report. ThumbUp

And as far as I'm concerned, you WERE getting a special 'Welcome Home'! The presidential motorcade just happened to be passing through at the same time! lol. :GL1800:

That's Wheels Through Time -- the motorcycle museum in Maggie Valley, NC. They had a group of lady riders stop by the other day, and Lucky thought you might be one of them.

Ah, thanks. Wheels Through Time! When we were on I-40 I believe, we saw signs for it. How far off of the exit from I-40 was that? Would love to do that next time. Also, for this new rider, how crazy are the roads when you get off of the interstate? I've not ridden the twisties and am a bit....nervous about them.

Congratulations! You are now a seasoned Triker!
When I want to get somewhere in the least amount of time, the Super Slab is great - just set the cruise control and relax. But if I want to really see Americana, I take the two-lane back roads to enjoy the twists, the turns, the frequent shade and the small towns - and the smell of cows and horses and freshly mowed fields.
On the twisties, just don't be in a hurry. Going into a curve, slow down, enter the curve and gently throttle up, keeping power on the drive wheels. After a day or two, those twisties won't bother you one bit.

Hey, are you the gal we ran into at the hotel in London, KY? The discussion was how hot it was and how to stay cool.

Yes, indeed! Truly, it's a small word, isn't it? And you have a private message!

Great to see you here. It was nice to chat with some fellow trikers that morning for sure!

Best Regards,

MarciaG :D
