I have been looking at ways to gain a little more leg room for the rider on my Goldwing 1800. Bike Solutions in Austin TX takes the original seat and replaces the foam and alters the cover to give more room and comfort for both rider and passenger. Pretty pricey but not much more than ordering a custom seat from Mustang or Corbin. My question is: Have any of you had your seat altered by these people and do you recommend them? That is a lot to put into something without talking to a few of their customers. Their website is BikeSolutionsllc.com . They alter seats for Goldwing and Harley Davidson touring bikes.

I have had a half dozen diff seats for my trike and none have been exactly what i am looking for. But maybe i am looking for something that really does NOT exist in the real world.
Having a softer seat like the Bike Solutions indicates doesnt mean a better ride. For short in town rides a soft seat might feel good but once on the road a soft seat MIGHT make you feel as if you are sinking too deep in the pocket.
If one is dealing with a BIKE then one might want to set lower to allow for feet on ground esp for a shorter ridder. But when you are looking at trikes you tend to get your legs/ hip all cramped up ( if using a heel - toe shifter) due to the need to reposition left foot to shift up or down in city ridding.
I have found that the more solid feeling seat made by Diamond to be just about right for me as it doesnt end up feeling mushy after 500+ miles.

Anyone else out there have the issue of hip cramps due to the need to reposition of feet.. Yeah is because of us being Ol Farts.

Always felt like I was being pushed out of the GL 1800 seat, convinced my wife to let me get the Mustang seat, went with back rest for her and back rest for me plus I had the heated seats. My wife and I like the comfort the seat gives us,it wqas costly but I think wellworth the price. Know of anyoone looking for origional GL 1800 2008 seat, let me know. Safe riding

I had the wingsoft mod done last May 2011. I got the large mod which moves the drivers seat back about 2". It did help with leg room and was more comfortable to ride. The seat did not really feel any softer, so for long trips I purchased an Air Wawk cushion and man what a difference!! I can now ride long distances and not have pain in the
" arse". I beleive the wingsoft mod helps by moving you back, but they aren't any softer. At $ 650.00 for the mod and $ 130.00 for the cushion, you are spending close to what a custom made seat costs.

I had my seat done by Bike Solutions back when they first got started. Matter of fact he did the modification in his garage at his house in Austin. I already had the seat modified earlier to remove that back two inches to give me more leg room and he asked me a lot of questions about this.

My opinion after putting 119,000 miles on the seat is it is just about as good as the day he did it. If I was to buy another wing, I would not hesitate for a second to have it done again.

I also have had seats done by other outfits. I have a Rick Mayer sitting on the shelf right now for my BMW, I replaced it with a Russell. My other two bikes currently have Russell's on them now. As much as I like the Russell's seats, I have never given a thought to getting one for the Wing.

My 2 cents worth.

I like it. I do not have enough padding where it counts and this modification by Bike Solutions makes up for it. I have the Air Hawk also which I use on long rides. Since it is winter here in Colorado, I am liking the WingSoft seat with electric heat a lot. It was 32degrees Sunday @ 9000 ft and blowing snow flurries. I was comfy.

Thanks guys, I think you have helped me decide. I have visited with the owner and seems like a really nice person. It will probably be a couple weeks before I can go to Austin but that may be what I do. I wouldn't mind buying a seat anywhere if I could be sure I will get the added leg room and it seems this alteration does that. I am not dis-satisfied with the firmness of the OEM cushion so softness is not the issue as long as it isn't as hard as a concrete block. I have had Mustang seats on my Harley and Hartco on a Kawasaki Voyager, the Hartco was pretty firm but still comfortable. I have ridden on a Air Hawk cushion before and liked it also. If anyone has some more input on this I would be happy to see it, that is a pretty big investment for me and I need to be sure I make the right decision. The better half doesn't allow me much room for mistakes in these matters.

I can sure see where moving the drivers backrest back 2 inches makes a world of difference for added room. BUT how does that effect your co-ridders space. As it is there aint a lt of room back there especially if you have a drivers back rest.
My following comment has nothing to do with leg room but with room itself...Like with all things once you move one thing sometimes something else feels jammed up or too far away. More so if you have always had something one way and dont know anything diff.
When i was dealing with seat i was also wanting highway pegs and handle bars right where i felt they should be. Comfortable for my 6 ft & X are reach is going to be diff for a taller or shorter rider. I ended up buying a handlebar mod that allowed me to adjust the handlebars up- down- in or out so that i felt more like the cockpit was customed just for me...

I visited with the owner in Austin and he said the passenger is also moved back 1 inch so the passenger only gives up 1 inch. I agree with you on the bars, I have thought about how I can make a change there. I might need to raise them some so I sit up straighter. Maybe I could tie a chain around my neck and the wife could keep my head pulled back so I would sit up straighter. She would probably enjoy yanking that chain ever so often.

Kuryakyn Handlebar Risers for Honda GL1800 (2001 to newer)

The ones i bought were those made by kuryakyn,,, Not from the site i posted but from another site. As usual the instructions from Kury suck big time and some forsight is needed to you dont have one going up and the other down is necessary. But for sure they along with a throttle wrist do hicky makes for a more comfortable ride. The throttle thig is more complicated as its really drilled / slotted for the handlbars in the stock position and once you re-position the bars the throttle thing needs to be sorted out.

U better hope that more wives dont read this about the chain thing as it might set a standard for their behavior. Bad enough that i get a " Head Slap" every once in awhile when i start to doze off and when i feel a helmet hit the back of my helmet i just know that the lady is taking a short nap....... Aint a bike made that is more comfortable than a GL.............. THATS A FACT!

Hadn't thought about the chain idea, but believe my helmet hittin' his is enough to keep Scalp Hunter awake and alert (even tho' I'm neither) on our 'big trips' . He finally figured out that wearin' a helmet isn't a bad idea with me on the back!! (Only took him 65 years . . .) And I agree about the Wing's comfort. I was totally pooped out after our longest ride last summer but my posterior was in good shape - and we have stock seats with B&G seat covers (and an additional 1/2" of foam).

Woolie, let us know when you come to Austin and maybe we can link up for a cup of hot chocolate!! We're about an hour northwest of Austin. Safe trip!!
