Will a Champion trike fit on a 5 x 10 open trailer? I need to go pick up my new to me, trike and that seems to be the biggest trailer I can find around here. I know it would be tight and I would strap, strap and strap more then was thinking of putting some boards between the tires and side of the trailer to keep the tires from moving sideways. I also know it will be "fun" getting it in the trailer with only a few inches to spare but I would go real slow.
On the Champion website it says the OVERALL WIDTH IS 57.75. Anyone ever done this? I know its not idea but when I can't find a 6 foot wide.......

No it's an open one. I put my motortrike on the same trailer. It was close but I still had room to spare but I think the Champion is wider.

If you do this you must absolutely cross-tie your rear straps to keep the rear end from hitting the sides. You will only have 1 1/8" on each side so take it slow. If you're using new tie down straps and not chains, double check your tie downs after the first ten miles or so, and then again at 25 miles as they will stretch (I don't care what the package says!) And be sure they are the ratchet straps or you will never get them tight enough. I use to haul my RZR all over like this and never had a problem.

NOTE: Be very careful loading it that coolant tank doesn't drag when going from ramp to trailer. Many have been demolished there if the angle between the ramp and trailer is too great.

FYI, I put this 1500/motortrike on a 4"x8' trailer. Motortrike list's the width as 53" which was pretty accurate, as you can see by the overhang of the tire on the bed of the trailer.

Why? I towed this from Dallas/Ft. Worth to East China Mi. Not one issue. I've towed all across the country, you just have to know what you're doing. Know that your tires and bearings are up to snuff, make sure your wiring and lighting are proper and away you go!

If your trailer had permanent side rails you might have a tight fit...
I have a 5 by 9 trailer [Permanent rails], But to tow my Tri Glide I need my 6 1/2 by 10...

About 400 miles. The trailers are open but they do have a railing about it about 1 foot up. I am still looking for a wider trailer.

Firea100's picture looked similar to my (sold) Lehman Raider trike. The rear fender flares were 55" across, and the tire width, from the outside of the tire treads (for ramps) were 52½" And yes, the tires stuck out on both sides.

I trailed it from West Virginia to Philadelphia, on a flat bed 4' x 8' trailer, but I double-strapped the front forks down, and strapped the rear tires down to the deck. Even with all that strapping down, it still moved around.

When you use a 1' railing on the trailer with only 1+" on either side, make sure you have a good body shop at your destination, to refinish the scratched fender flares. I'm with Lucky on this one ~ think about a U-haul "solution" instead.

well i have no idea, but...... has anyone used one of those devices that fit on a tow bar, and drag a bike with the back wheel on the road... that sort of thing is illegal here, hence i have no idea, but could you use a sturdy version of such a device with a trike...... Just askin....

Yes I tried UHAUL since they say they have a 6x12. But all the 6x12 I could find there had tailgates where the opening was less then 5 ft. I ended up buying an 06 that was up in Blue Ridge and riding it home.

I agree with you Lucky. I've towed LOTS of miles all over this country and I wouldn't tow my trike on that trailer across the street.

As far as the original towing question I would think it would be a little tight. My 5x10 open trailer is only 59 1/2 inches wide. I can haul my brother in laws Triglide, which is only 54 inches wide, but not my Hannigan, which is 63 inches wide. I'm going to buy a 6x12 enclosed to haul mine. Many advantages. My Hannigan will fit on my friends 6x12 open, but the gate is only 4 ft long and makes loading and unloading tricky at best. Trikes are much lower to the ground than regular motorcycles and enclosed trailers use their back doors as the ramp. Plus the enclosed sits much lower than the typical open trailer. Makes loading much easier.

why not just ride it if it is raining take rain gear, for 400 mil. if you don't have any one to take you, take a bus good way to get acquainted with trike.

I have a 06 wing with the Roadsmith HT1800 kit on it. I use my 5X10 open trailer to haul it on. My trike is 58" wide and you have to be careful loading it clear the fenders. The advise given by a previous poster about cross strapping the trike the rear with ratchet straps is spot on. My trailer also has a railing around both sides and the front about 12" high and I secure the front wheel to the front rail. I also use soft ties around the triple tree and ratchet straps to secure the front of the trike down. My trailer is exactly 120" long and with the rake kit on the trike my overall length is 118" There's not much "wiggle" room so be sure to check the strapping often and you'll have no issues.
