Wheels on CSC 2012

Karen I cant say they wont fit, but I would be hesitant to buy any that much different without trying them on the trike. Just not sure what the clearance on the CSCs is. Maybe some CSC owners will chime in or a call to the factory might get you an answer.

Do any of you know if the offset of +42mm will work on the CSC 2012 kit Viper when the kit wheels are 35mm?

On a 7" wide wheel,a +35mm offset would equate to a 5.40" backspacing. A +42mm offset would equate to around 5.70" backspacing. My guess is the +42 offset wheels would fit fine. Just look to make sure you have at least 1/2" clearance on the inside between the tire sidewall & inner fenderwell.

When it comes to backspace,it's always better to err on the side of too much, rather than too little. Too little and you will probably get to buy new wheels. A little too much backspace can be corrected with an 1/8" or 1/4" disc brake spacer.(easily found and safe to use)

I did some shopping to find something other than the factory offerings, and came up with nothing. I can tell you the wheels on my Daytona are the same bolt pattern as a Dodge Stratus. :qpnmt: I'll be interested in what you find, Karen! :Coffee:

With a slightly wider wheel not sure of the difficulty in taking the wheel & tire off.... even though its offset it still moves the wheel location???

CSC uses the same bolt pattern (5 X 100mm or 5 X 3.94inches) as Audi TT, Volkswagen Beetle(NEW), Subaru, Chevy Corsica & Barretta, PT Cruiser , Town & Country Van and many others. You can go to Tire Rack, use one of the above vehicles and see what wheels you like. All wheels are listed with the offset.

I emailed CSC and was told the 42mm offset would hit the suspension, so back to the drawing board.

You can install a disc brake spacer between the wheel and hub,to correct the backspacing. It's done all the time. I had to use a pair of 3/8" thick spacers on the rear of my Boss Hoss trike. Sometimes, the wheel you really want isn't available in the correct offset.

What wheel are interested in?

I have 08 GL1800 with a csc cobra kit It had 15x6.5 35 offset I put 15x7 40 offset ,I had to put a 3/8 spacer & grind the square corner off the rear suspension knuckle & then I HAD to use stick on wheel weights to clear the knuckle , one off my original wheels had 60 thousands runout the other had 28

Road Dog that is tight. They do not have the directional 16" now. But for $903 with tires for 17" may not be a bad price. I just want something shiney, you know ladies like the bling!!

Karen

there are these but would be nicer in 17" and are 35mm offset http://www.americanracing.com/wheels/AR105M/AR6052?bolt_pattern=5x100.00&offset=35

Just keep in mind the wheels with +35mm offset will not look quite like that wheel. The wheels in that link have very little offset so they have a decent amount of dish/lip. The same wheel with +35 will have the spokes almost out to the outer edge of the rim. Just something to keep in mind

I understand about the offset. Its just the only option or chrome the 5 split spoke on the trike.

There are more wheel options than you think. It just really depends on your budget. Custom wheels can make or break any project so I try to never scrimp in that area. If you need any help, feel free to drop me a line.

Here is a similar wheel in a 17x7 size w/+38mm offset. http://www.eliteswheels.com/main/product_detail/3567
My next question is;what width wheel is on your trike now?

Any CSC built before late 2014 will require a wheel spacer to use a 16 X 7 wheel with 35 MM 0ffset. Changes were made late 2014 on the suspension so a 16 X 7 -- 35 MM offset will fit without wheel spacer.

Ok,what was the baseline offset?

The wheel that came on my 07 was a 15 X 6 1/2 inch, 5 on 100mm bolt pattern. 4 3/4 backspace. Tire size 205/60R15.

16 X 6 1/2, 35 mm offset fits with no problem. When I get the spacer from CSC, I will let you know how thick it is.

So,now we know how wide a wheel will fit with the correct numbers. A 6.5" wheel with 4.75" backspace = +25mm offset. Off the top of my head,a wheel with that width and offset shouldn't be too tough to find. Cost though,is an unknown factor,at the moment. What some people are willing to pay is always the X factor. I've spent over $1000 per wheel on some of my custom builds and as little as $200/each. Just depends on the build.

The Intro forged billet 17x7 wheels on our new Hannigan trike were $950/pair +$75 freight. For custom billet four-lug wheels made to my specs,I thought the cost was more than reasonable.

Edit: quite a bit of difference between a 6.5" wide wheel with 4.75" backspace (+25mm offset) and a 6.5" wide wheel with 5.125" backspace (+35mm offset) Just saying,,

i did not no they made a spacer ? I would like to see a picture of it, if you can when you get it ? How much did they cost ? Thanks

The spacer is 0.202 thick. This means a 16 X 7 inch wide wheel (35 mm offset) will clear the suspension on CSC.

CSC just charged me shipping for the spacer. 0.202 inches is approx. 5 mm.

I saw the trike last night and it has the same size tires as you stated, and the wheels are 15"

The spacer CSC sent is a universal spacer(one size fits many different bolt patterns -- not self centering).

There are many 5MM self centering (5 X 100 MM / 57.1 MM center hole) available on E-Bay for around $20.

A 16 X 7 wheel(35 mm offset) fits when using a 5 MM wheel spacer.
