what to do with take offs

What did you do with your take off parts when you had the trike built?
I'm going to have mine built 2700 miles from where I live. Not sure if it would be worth having them shipped all that way.
If I was going to ship the trike I would concider it but I think I am going to do a fly and ride.

I took mine and sold them on ebious. spelled wrong intentionally.

The side bags actually went for a grand plus shipping but my build was close by.

Was it worth me bringing the take off parts back... well, my conversion was 15.8 and I made 1.8 back, gave the rear wheel, swing arm and t-tree to a local indy that he will sell and give me credit for future work.

I would have to say yes, it was worth it to me but from 2700 miles away? That's a great question. Maybe they can wrap some of it up and store in your trunk and tour pack or maybe box and tape to your seat for delivery?

Well a couple of good points. If I can really get over a thousand for the items I should see what it would cost to ship them. They could sure be on a slow boat because I won't need them.
Putting them in the trunk and back seat won't work. I'm 90% sure I plan to fly over to South Carilina and ride the trike back here to Oregon. As it is I might UPS a box with our leathers ahead of us. And take minimum cloths on the plan. God help me if I told Diane that she couldn't bring her hair dryer because I needed room for a rear sprocket LOL !!

I took the liberty to speak with my builder this morning. Here's what he does...

He sells all of the parts that are left by a customer on ebay to extend his profit. He will sell on ebay for his customers for cost plus 15% if they don't ebay or he is asked to do so.

This maybe worth discussing??

Yep.. had led wings w/harness, wall organizers, factory carry bags and chrome protection spears. About a total of 360 bucks if bought new and had a key made for the purchaser. Got an extra 50 for shipping too.

Here's the item number for ebay. (edit, removed item number due to many emails from ebay users that own trikes asking me how I did it.) Ultraboy saw that I wasn't making it up. It went for a grand. So I removed it. Ultraboy.. you be my witness. :D

Everyone I told said it must have been a real battle for them. It hit a grand inside of the last 60 seconds.

HD can sell to HD people that want to dress up there ride but Goldwings already have them the market is much slimmer.

The shop doing mine said that the take off's are worth very little to them and that I am free to take them. He did offer $150 for the rear tire. Said it's all he was interested in.
If the stuff really isn't worth anything I'd just rather leave it and not look back. I wouln't even remember them in a couple months. I've been real good at keeping numerous bike parts over the years that rarely did me any good. I'm sure that could be said by many of you LOL.

The Gold Wing parts are going pretty cheap. Some of the Harley parts bring decent money but Ive not had anywhere near the luck you've had reksul. About 300-400 is what ive gotten for late model hard bags and Ive sold them for less than that. I just don't have the time to fool with ebaying them lately.

ultraboy- I do a case by case thing. If I cut a deal I usually ask for the pull offs, but I really dont push it then. If I got $15.8K to trike one, Id darn sure give you youre stuff back! Im thinking I must be too cheap!

Kept the bags
Center stand
swingarm
caliper and all the stuff
Sold it one piece at a time
Got $400.00 bucks for the entire thing, caliper, arm, gearbox, and swing arem bearings..
the guy was happy to pay it considering the alternatives

This, like anything else, is negotiable.

Take off from a Harley can be sold. Fenders Bags etc. Being that all Goldwings come with Bags and it is a unit they are hard to sell. You could have it made into a trailer or a unit to go into the trailer hitch

I had my parts for sale on many sites.
I didn't put a high price on them but no offers.
I put them for sale in Wisconsin Wings newspaper for free and finally got rid of them after 2 years.

Ohhhh,, I used to hang on to parts forever it seemed. Handlebars from this bike,, primamry from that bike,,, seat, grips, tank from that bike. But never really needed them. No more hanging onto parts for me.
I sold everything that was taken off except the saddle bags and foot pegs.
So I'm pretty content
