Hmmmm,

Wife and I really want to go to gathering as we haven't been to Maggie Valley or anywhere in NC yet.............Have to travel nearly 1000 mi to get there from here in Texas.

....Much look forward to the ride and adventure ................"But no likee BUNCH'a RAIN!.....No sah!"

....maybe forecast will change for the better by then............I wonder if this is the "norm" for this time of year up there in North Carolina? :xzqxz:

Cheers!

The meteorologist have a hard time forecasting the weather 2 days out with any real accuracy.

I wouldn't have much faith in a forecast for a month from now.

And it rains in mountains almost every afternoon any way. Just start your rides early so your back at base by 3 or so and you will (probably) stay dry. Plus, a little water isn't going to hurt you. :D

Take a big umbrella. Cya in Tx

WTF!! You're relying on a weather prediction a MONTH ahead of time???

I've ridden the BRP/Cherohala Skyway every year coming home from Rolling Thunder. Only twice I've run into heavy rain, but only lasted a couple days at most. In the mountains you will encounter almost every type of weather = rain - fog - heat - cold - wind. I even got hit with hail once.

You do own a rain suit don't you??

Just go and enjoy. You will LOVE the area. Don't forget the Dragon. :D

....Dude, I'm only monitoring the weather forecast!....Have not changed plans and will go as planned (unless really bad weather is happening there)......I am not familiar with the area yet..........A few weeks ago, we rode to the Badlands in S. Dakota and ended up spending 3 days in hotel room due to constant cold rain and fled the area when the weather broke for a few hours as we were out of time. (the forecast was to be mid 80's and nice, but it was 54 degrees for a high and rained all week unexpectedly) .............That's why I asked about the normal weather in the Maggie Valley area during this time of year.

............Rain suit? :D......Naa - I just carry cans of WD 40 and soak myself down before a rain! (cheaper than rain suits you know....and smell better too!!!)

Cheers!

Randy, I took this to mean you changed your mind and will not be going. Have fun.

.....Now that really IS good advise to leave out early to ride and get in by 3 or so!!!

..I really don't have much faith in the forecast this far out, but I check it anyway....and will be watching closely!.........That's why I thought I'd just see how this Gathering normally has weather conditions........just smelling around for info.

Cheers!

This year they call for 60-80% rain all week and then 2 days out all of a sudden poof 20% or less.Don't fret it to much.Besides half the fun is had hanging out.

Actually the best part of a ride is too laugh about the weather, a year later! Go, enjoy, have fun, wear rain gear, and laugh all the way there in the rain..

"wish I was going with yea" ! :clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping:

In 2004 on our first trike trip, we got our rain suits from Walmart. The yellow construction rain suits with snaps on the jacket. Near Amarillo Tx on I 40 rain clouds gathered so our group stopped to suit up. All our friends had motorcycle rain gear and we hard our construction yellow rain suits. We got back on our :wave4:trikes and started out. At bout 65 mph my wife’s suit starts SWELLING UP. Looked like a yellow Goodyear Blimp and then the snaps started unsnapping and the wind started ripping and tearing it until it was in shreds. She got wet and mad but today it’s funny. Every time we get with our trike friends from that trip we still laugh about it. It’s the little things that make The the journey memorable.:wave4:

We all laughed with each other. Whether it was me,my wife or some other member of the group. Two of that particular group have passed away since that 2004 trip. We sat for hrs at the memorial and funeral activities crying and laughing about our times together on trike trips. :wave4:

I went to Sturgis. Got rained on going, Got rained and Hailed on During Sturgis. Go rained on coming home. It's only right that you should get rained on too. Just kidding. Rain is OK as long as there's no soap involve. LOL.

Wife and I just returned to Indiana from Maggie Valley , rain was forecasted every day ! It was a light rain and not everyday , but yes there is always some kind of moisture in the mountains. Don't be discouraged by the weather man , they seem to be more wrong than right lol ! Also if you like scenery stay off the Dragon ! You won't have time to view anything , it is an exciting ride ,but we found the Rattler a much better trail . You can make a loop ride out of it by going north of Maggie Valley to Hotsprings ,N.C. and returning to Maggie Valley down the Rattler which is hiway 209 , it is beautiful about 100 mile loop ! Also the Moonshine trail south of Sylva , N.C. in the Nantahala National forest is awesome , has some nice waterfalls , about 140 mile loop if I remember correctly ! My two cents , have fun ! Ebert

Yep, gotta agree, it's about the ride. The destination may be nice, but it's the getting there that is the fun!

Regarding rain...I wish it would rain. I've been riding back and forth from work for a few weeks in 90-100 degree temps with no rain.

Rain makes riding in those temps much cooler! :D

Gona take us 2.5 days to get there. As long as we get there it don’t matter what nature sends. I’ll have my Tennessee Honey to remove the chills. Being I’m not 20 any more, it don’t matter other than to ride safe.

....Thanks for the tip Ebert! (very encouraging!)

............But am also watching the thunderstorm predictions currently predicted from Texas to Maggie Valley during this time............this could and probably will change!!!! (hopefully)

....a little lite rain and heavy mountain mist is just fine..................BUT, Frog strangling thunderstorms = NOT!

.......will keep an eye on weather for sure.

Cheers!
