We've all seen them

Sitting at a cafe, bikes and trikes gleeming, enjoying your coffee. Around the corner appears "sidecar Bob". As his name suggests, sidecar and name is Bob or Bobby in the land of the free.

These characters usually have a long beard, goggles that remind you of the pilot Biggles, missing teeth, matted hair, leather jacket that looks like it has been on his back for decades and boots worn so thin where the gear lever sits.

Sidecar Bob alights his motorcycle, allows time for his spine to straighten, belches hot air like a deflating balloon at a party and waves at us all. He's been doing this for 50 years.

Just as you think he'll join you Bob takes from his trunk of his cycle a picnic box, full of home made sandwiches of pickles, and spam. This weather torn man is full of experience and still loves his ride but he isnt mainstream, he's himself, an original he is one of a kind. How does the likes of sidecar Bob become ...himself?

It starts with people like us trikers. We arrive at an age where we no longer can afford to eat or drink out hence the sandwiches. This financial restriction leads to keeping a relic of a vehicle...no hope of updating. Besides you are too old to learn how to ride "one of those shiny things. You also wont adapt to modern helmets because full face helmets cause your bad breath to remain to be sniffed in again- not so healthy. Your skin loses its feeling so why cover it up with a new jacket...allow the old one to breathe with its built in airconditioning.

Fast track your own life 30 years or so. Sidecar Bob could be triker Tommy. A VW trike thats 40 years old. Your teeth missing, a grin wider than the Hudson River and your wife packs your sandwiches....along with some Jack Daniels.....see thats why sidecar Bob eats and drinks alone so he doesnt have to share. And like sidecar Bob you'll be far wiser than you look.....;)

One can only hope......ThumbUp

I loved it! Great story from our friends from down under, and I hope to be a "Triker OJ" someday, but not to soon I hope. I will bring out my sandwiches (hope to keep all my teeth so I can chew), a little Southern Comfort and a thermos of fresh coffee. Ahhhhh, another good day in Texas for me..........got a spot at the table for me?

I'm with ya O.J. Little Southern Comfort and Seven around a fire with friends, talking about the days ride or yesterdays or yesteryears ride. We "experienced " (grey haired) riders can get as much enjoyment out of a shared tale as on of our own. Ride safe
