A recent post got me to thinkin' "what am I hauling around?". Would I even know if I overloaded my bike? Here is some numbers:
1259 - grvw for a 2003 HD Road Glide
776 - dry weight of my bike
30.37 - weight of 5 gallons gas
65 - weight of Ghost Wheels system
175 - me
After deducting everything from the gross vehicle weight, I got 212.63 pounds left over for wife, tools, jackets, rainwear, helmets, pickanik basket, etc.. I won't say what the Mrs. weighs, but we exceed the grvw without the gear.

So, do you know the capacity of your ride?

Never paid it much attention, the GVW of my 06 Ultra should be the same as your Road Glide. I've taken many trips with both saddle bags stuffed, the tour-pak stuffed full and a stuffed bag strapped to the tour-pak rack. My weight has been anywhere between 267 - 230 depending on my diet and work out routine, the wife goes around 135. So I'll bet I've been exceeding the GVW by a few.

On 3 wheels, I don't think I come close. On 2 I did the calculations based on tire max. knew I was close.Didn't account for extra downward force from dips and potholes. got a bubble in tire as inside lining started seperating from rubber. was already going under 30 mph when it blew. Barely managed to control it with all gear and wife. She was not pleased. On a Sunday outside Richmond, VA. Everything closed, of course.

I have seen a whole lot of bikes loaded up and hauling a trailer. A blowout or emergency maneuver would get someone killed. Just because you can doesn't mean that you should. A safety-concious rider would leave 15% reserve capacity.
