Warranty questions

We haven't purchased a trike as yet but have pretty well settled on the Roadsmith by Trike Shop. Here are our dilemmas.<br />

We live in the Seattle area where there is only one conversion shop and it's a Lehman shop and thats it. They do great work but this isn't the brand we have selected. So the Trike Shop conversion shop is 850 miles away give or take which may or may not be a problem. My big concern is the warranty work if needed.. My impressions are as a resut of conversations with dealers is, that once you trike a Honda you are out in the cold if something goes wrong. And definitly SOL if you have frame cracks on an 02-03.<br />

So my question is this. What have you all experienced with dealerships after you have triked a Gold Wing?<br />

$35.000. is a fair amount to be just winging it.<br />

From reading the trike threads I know that some dealers in some areas will work with you. Don't seem to be the case in the PNW.

I installed a trike Shop Roadsmith kit on our Harley Ultra, we couldn't be happier with it. <br />
As far as your warranty questions, go to trikeshop.com and click support and then warranty. If you live more than 125 miles from a trike Shop dealer, you can go to a automobile or motorcycle dealer and they will reimburse the dealer. For more info go to their website under support or contact them through their website. <br />
As far as Honda dealers and their warranty, I don't have a clue.
 
Have the frame checked before you trike it..... as far as warranty work, the Kit is a dependable one from the info I have heard on this forum. I would go over it with the conversion shop before I left and then take it out on a shake down run before you head home. All is not lost in the Pacific Northwest with a trike. First, a Harley does not have a cracked frame problem, and if it did, it is steel and can be fixed. Not quite true with the Aluminum alloy frames that are under the wings.<br />

The Honda warranty on a wing will cover the bike while it is still stock, but triking it will remove the warranty from the frame portion, along with the rear running gear. Honda only warranties the parts they made and sold you. The rear running gear warranty if from the trike manufacturer, and that depends on which one. <br />

Best shot is to find a really good installer that takes pride in his work. In Oregon, only one I have found is a custom bike builder that is also a MotorTrike dealer, and he specializes in Harleys. But the trike part is primarily Goldwings, and he also works with handicapped who want to ride - he just finished a GL1500 for a close friend Saturday, with an electric shifter, dual hand brakes, and running boards with no pegs. I test rode it and looked it over Saturday, and WAS I IMPRESSED. Crawled all over it, under it, etc, and even the wiring was looking like a parade.

I am not handicapped (physically), and could get real used to the hand brakes and electric shifter - in a heartbeat. By the way, his name is Steve, and is listed as S&D Custom Cycles in Grants Pass, OR. The bike he just triked came from around Port Townsend, WA about a month ago as a 97 GL1500 SE.<br />

The other installers I have seen in Oregon have either had too many problems, sloppy work, or I am not familiar with them.<br />

As an aside, Steve will not let you take the converted wing until he has a chance to show you what to look for, maintain, and operate. In fact, he broght this one over and spent a couple of hours showing the new owner the ins and outs of his new rig.

A lot of honda dealers where people have done bussines with are bought bikes there will do warrnty work on bikes that have been triked as lond as they do not have to call the factory rep in.
If they have to call a factory rep in then you are just out of luck.There is nothing the dealer can do about it.
Best thing to do is to take the bike in to a dealer before you have it triked and let them go over it real good.It may cost you a little money to have it done,but be well worth it down the line and I would tell them you are going to have it triked.
