There was a old thread, closed, im looking to mount a camera, i tried a go pro, i was thinking a 12 volt wired into a switch, easier, than fumbling on phone, so it doesnt drain the camera battery ,i would hook into trike system. wondering likes, dislikes of others might be using, thanks

It seems like dashcams have been becoming more popular on the bikes and I've seen a few threads on internet about them. And you can find them up to 4k resolution which is pretty good. And quite often they will come with a camera that mounts on the rear as well. Many different ways to wire them and can be wired so only works when ignition is on. It will automatically record as soon as you start the bike and depending on the size of your digital card, it can record quite a bit.

In these times, it's almost a necessity as you never know what situation you may find yourself such as an accident in and can be the perfect witness when the other guy says it was your fault. I'm seriously considering wiring up one on mine just because of this. Not going to get into the story but I wish I had done it before last September as I might have had some answers to my question about what happened...

One difference from a GoPro and these I believe is that I know a GoPro could have a continuous recording where these are broken up into segments like 3 or 5 minutes. At least that's how my truck dashcam works. Not sure if other dashcams can be setup for continuous unbroken segments.

About a month ago, I purchased a KENWOOD STZ-RF200WD front and rear camera system (from Volunteer Audio) on an impulse buy because of a special they were running.

I did a quick research and found more positives than negatives about it, so I purchased it.

They have a nice install video as well, and I’ve seen other videos on it and it’s a nice little set up for the price.

Link:

When I have time I’ll get it mounted and all connected up at some point, but just wanted to chime in to help give some info on this camera system.

Amazon has it at $199 which seems like a reasonable price for a big name brand. Definitely post your results and thoughts once it's installed. I'd be curious to hear.

Absolutely…
There’s some nice install videos on YouTube and of course the company KENWOOD had a few also, but it’s seems like a nice solid unit.

Here’s just one link on YouTube where they installed non a Road Glide, but the quality seems really good.

I like the idea of not only capturing video more consistently, but as a safety camera system (front and rear).

GoPro cameras and another popular one called insta360 definitely have better quality videos, and certainly popular for many reasons…but at this point , (for me), I like the idea of a “dash cam” front & rear that still gives some very nice quality videos, but I wanted more of a safety dash cam/video due to many distracted drivers out there nowadays.

(Just thinking it’s a win-win and still easy on the wallet too).

I’ll certainly give a review when I have a chance to install it. 👍🏻

I run a GoPro on my fairing, with it plugged into 12V all the time, all I do is reach over the windshield and push the button to start or stop recording. The only problem is the bugs, but I clean the lens fairly often. I do not remember what size stick I have in it, but it seems I get more video than really needed. :) Takes edit time.

I have an old Tom Tom Bandit on my helmet with a remote and take a lot of stills, but it can take video, I just have never done that.

These two fill my needs.
