Started the first leg of my trip yesterday. Made it to 60 miles West of Chicago and found a motel for the night. Getting through Chicago was worse than I remembered. The ambient temp was 95 degrees and the traffic was horrible.

It took 1 1/2 hours to travel 9.5 miles through Chicago. It was move 100 feet stop and wait. I certainly was concerned about oil/engine temps. The oil temp reached a max of 260 degrees which I didn't really like. It never went over that. I was sure glad to get to motel and rest for the night.

Today we arrived in Richfield, Minnesota.

I had a very weak moment and agreeded to stop at Mall Anmerica for my bride to see it. She is one of those folks that really likes to shop and generally don't buy much. We will be here for 2 days and then head out to Hill City, SD. That will be more my speed.

Re: Trip To Jachson Hole WY

Hope you have a wonderful trip, will be looking forward to you sharing it with us here on Triketalk........be safe and have a great time!

Re: Trip To Jachson Hole WY

I understand the Chicago thing, Mike! We really have no (reasonable) option than to travel north through Chicago in order to visit our daughter/grandkids in Sheboygan. It is one of those grit-your-teeth-say-your-prayers and head on through. It is always a big load off when the last of it is behind us!

Re: Trip To Jachson Hole WY

You should have gone around on 294. Then you would have missed the Dan Ryan. The way you went is the route the GPS always taks you, for some stupid reason. Jim

Re: Trip To Jachson Hole WY

Your going to Love Jackson Hole, everytime I went out through Chicago, I would try to be going through there around 2 in the morning......make sure you check out the "Cowboy Bar" in Jackson Hole & try out those barstools, if the place is still there. Also take a ride up the chairlift, scenery is awesome

Re: Trip To Jachson Hole WY

Yup its getting crowded with bikes out this way, Keystone, SD.<br />
Hope you have a good trip out here.

Re: Trip To Jachson Hole WY

I'm sure you must have found a good place for some coffee and kicked back with a cup or two and people watched.

I did alot of people watching and drinking coffee. The place is huge. I took alot of pictures there. I don't think your mother will see it all in 2 days. She sure is giving it a try, she was really beat last night.

We might be heading to Denver Thursday morning, Don't know if you are going that way. If so,might cross your path. Going out to see my youngest son. Then maybe ride around some other places. I've been almost everywhere in Colorado anyway, but never get tired of the mountains. If the wife would move ,thats where I'd go. Jim

Instead of Sturgis this year, we have planned a trip to southwestern colorado. South Fork, Pagosa Springs, Durango, Silverton, Telluride, Gunnison and back to hwy 285 and home. Should be a great scenic run.

That certainly sounds like a nice trip. Enjoy and of course be SAFE.

We are now in Mitchell, SD. Hit some rain coming across 90. There is alot of MC traffic heading East on 90. We will arrive in Hill City early tomorrow.

We made it to Hill City this afternoon. Very nice ride over here. The MC traffic on RT 90 heading East was heavy.

Got in touch with Larry and his wife ( Lzski1326 ) and met them at Grizzleys in Keystone for supper. Had a good supper there and spent some quality time talking to both of them. They are certainly nice folks.

Will head over to Sturgis tomorrow morning and possibly do Mt. Rushmore in the afternoon.

We did the southwestern Colorado last year. Flew into Denver and rented a car saw the AF Acadamy pikes peak rode the Durango to Silverton steam train, drove all over SW Colorado then took the California Zephr train from Grand Junction to Chicago beautiful senery stayed in Chicago a couple days then took the Capital Limited back to Wash. DC love those trains. I rode my 2-wheeler to Jackson Hole made reservations from the top of the mountains good thing to I tried 3 hotels before I got one with a vacancy. Some riders we met coming from Jackson Hole told us we better get reserv.

Got up ealry this morning and headed to Sturgus. I couldn't believe it, the parking lot at HD Dealer was chucked full at 08:15. The houses along the street before the dealer had tents pitched in their front yards.

Also went to Mt Rushmore and Custer State Park. Mt Rushmore was exactly as I expected "GREAT". We saw alot of buffalo on the Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park. Of course the donkeys were very friendly and walked up to the Trike. We are headed to Crazy Horse tomorrow.

We had a great time having dinner with you and your wife the other day. So it sounds like you made it thru today without the weather messing you up.
Larry

We went to Crazy Horse this morning. My bride was more impressed with that than anything else that we have seen on our travels with the exception of Mall America. The Indian Museum and Culture Center was GREAT. Also the theater where we watched the history of how the sculpture was planned and started was very informative. Spent alot of time walking around Hill City this afternoon. It was really busy.

We will be heading to Yellowstone ( Jackson Hole ) tomorrow morning. We will be taking a leisurely trip over to there and will probably spend the night in Spencer and see what they have to offer.

Well my bride and I just arrived in Casper, WY. Nothing impressive in the town. It is just a stopping off point for our last leg of the journey. Should arrive in Jackson Hole early tomorrow.

I can tell you that RT 18 & 25 across WY is dissolute. It is even worse that RT 90 heading West if you can picture that.

Can't wait to get to Jackson Hole.
