Can someone tell me if I should have a substantial difference in transmission noise with clutch engage and disengage? When clutch is engaged it is quiet with no noise from Gears when clutch is let out in neutral there is a small sound of the gears is this normal?

Note that noise is louder when engine is cold but dissipates somewhat after I have a hot engine but it is still noticeable.

Yes ... however, I would call it "a subtle difference" and your words "substantial" concerns me. Can you capture it on a video, post it on youtube, and place the link here so that we can hear it ???

Your noise could very well be normal.

Substantial versus subtle

Being a previous GL 1500 owner my GL 1800 seem to be louder noise. About 2 years ago I had a Honda mechanic listen and drive it and he told me to not be concerned that some wings have quieter and some have louder gear noise and I just got the luck of the draw having one that was a little louder than most.

He explained that my alternator was gear-driven and not rubber disc driven like in my GL 1500 and that was part of the noise that I was hearing.

I've had this GL1800 3 years and thirty thousand plus miles noise level has not really changed up or down so I guess I'll live with that.

A couple guys I ride with their GL1800 s do have gear noise but not nearly as loud as mine guess like the mechanic said I just got the luck of the draw having one that was a little louder.

I'll work on getting a YouTube video of the noise and let you know when that happens thanks for responding back appreciate it.
