Tn Hog Rally

Just got MRI back on my shoulder. 2 torn tendons on the rotator cuff. Now I need an operation on top of a neck brace. Life is not much fun - at least for a few more months. May have to retire also - don't want to - I still have to pay for all this, but don't see how I will get to work.

Oh well - a day at a time. This riding season is over.

Gary, so sorry about your difficulties. I have lost a riding season due to injuries on two separate occassions. Hope you can stay positive, do what the docs say and concentrate on getting well. One thing that helped my recovery last year was a weekly 'beer therapy' session :drinks:with several of my friends. Gave me something to look forward do and while I couldn't ride with them we could visit and talk about the rides we'd take after my recovery.

Just had the rotator cuff operation Monday. Excrusiating pain all day yesterday after the block wore off. Doubled dose on medication and all is OK today. Now the challenge begins = what should I do for a replacement for my 14 TG?

Only got $24K from insurance. Would like some input and thoughts on a 14,15 or16. I was contemplating a 17, but my H-D mechanic said I should stay away from the 17's. He doesn't have any skin in the game so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and concentrate on 14 to 16 models, besides they're more affordable.

My dealer said there are no differences between those years other then something about Blue Tooth which I don't care about.

Depending on mileage (usually low for each year) what would be, in you opinion, the pros and cons of each of those years?

I need some fuel for thought. :)

For whats its worth......Stay away from the M8...And its not just my 17 thats not ready for prime time my dealer has at least 4 others that have to go back every 800 hundred miles or so to have the trans refiled, and the primary drained....By this time tomorrow my 17 T/G will be gone.....[Hopefully.]...

Gone? Can you elaborate?

I thought about that for about .....10 seconds. Sorry, but I want to feel like I'm riding a motorcycle not a car...…. I'll still give you a ride. :D

Good luck on your recovery from shoulder surgery. Make sure you do the physical therapy they prescribe. It really helps your recovery.

What about the Freewheeler?.

You don't have to shy away from the New M8 motor. They have a few problems on a low percentage of them & it's very low.

I looked at the Freewheeler and if I was just going to ride locally then I would seriously think about it, but I do 2 to 3 long distance trips a year and the Freewheeler just wouldn't be able to handle it.

I'm getting even more negative opinions on the 17's. So I'm going to err on the safe side and stay with the older years.

I'm just trying to get others opinions here on the 14 -15- 16's which one has more negative issues.

You really only hear horror stories from those who have had problems. I had a 2017 CVO Limited with the M8 114" motor and put almost 10k on it with absolutely no problems. Now I have a 2018 Tri-Glide with the M8 107" motor. It has a little over 12k on it and absolutely no problems. My riding buddy had a 2017 Road Glide with the M8 motor and now he too has a 2018 Tri-Glide with the M8 motor. No problems at all.

I don't doubt some folks are having problems but I just don't think it is as widespread as we are led to believe.

In any case it's your call and good luck with whatever you decide.

Well, I stopped into the dealer Friday to pick up some parts from my old TG. Jokingly I asked if any used trikes have been traded in lately. All the salespeople know I'm looking for a replacement. One of the gals said "As a matter of fact one was just brought in the day before." It was a 2014 with 785 miles on it. It took me a couple hours to finally decide on it - - - because it was black. If it had been red, I would have bought it in a NY minute. :)

Supposedly the older owner fell out of love with it - only rode it a little each year until he couldn't handle it any more.

Got the price down to $24692.00 from $27000.00 what they were going to list it for. That's $692 over what I received from State Farm.

Now I have wait a couple months (hope not more) to be able to ride it. In the meantime, I'm having them reinstall all the parts I took off the old bike.

I hope I can live with the color. :) Any tips or tricks on preventing swirl marks - never had that problem with red?

Just search "how to care for black painted vehicles", you will find plenty to read while you are in recovery mode. You will soon love your trike, it goes with everything.:Dorag:

Put lots of chrome on it. Black and chrome is a good combo - hard to beat. And if it doesn't already have them you can get a painter to add some pin stripes that'll dress it up.

Glad it worked out for you . . . that's a sweet deal for sure.

You could have a custom wrap put on it - would protect the paint...if you had a design or red color in the wrap that might make it pop!

I use megquires (poor spelling)

Anyway if it is not scratched use only clean microfiber towels. Clearcoat helpskeep the swirls out. Black is a pain but they are beautiful of course I am partial. Travel safe Fred
