Well, I got off work at 7am Saturday morning and decided to take a little ride which would be around 170 mile loop. Starting in Rochester NH I headed for Sebago Lake Maine and then on to Naples, Fryeburg, Brownfield, Milton, Berwick before arriving back in Rochester.

Since I had to work tonight, I got my stuff ready and headed to bed. I got up and my arms were sore and tender as was my forehead. I looked in the mirror (always a frightful experience) and the red glow of "Lobstahman" was looking back at me. To give you an idea of what I looked like.....imagine laying a piece of raw meat on a white sheet of paper. Stick a fork in me....I'm done!!

Someday I'll remember to use sunscreen. I think I will be getting a bottle or tube and sticking it in my trunk for future use.

Gee Dennis, maybe he is correct, last time I saw you, you look a little too white. WOW, late night workers could be from the dark side! LOL 😈😈😈
I'll ask Pete if he noticed too?

Well this is interesting...

Years ago, I bought a large quantity of sunscreen towelettes. We kept some in the trike, the box on the shelf. We really like them. When I repurchased what I thought was the exact same thing, we got packets of cream, not a towelette. I figured no big deal, next time I'll make double sure I'm getting the towelettes. So for this thread, I do a search for the towelettes, and this is what I find... unbelievable...

"While sunscreen towelettes are technically available through the end of this year, we’ve already sold out of these popular items. The folks who use them regularly are upset. Everybody loved those things. Easy application. You could keep ’em in your pocket. They might even survive one round in the washing machine. But as much as workers loved them, it wasn’t enough for the new FDA regulations to keep them as approved delivery devices for sunscreen. (Insert Bronx cheer here.)

As a safety company, you hate to see one of your most popular products go away, but that’s exactly what has happened with the sunscreen towelettes from Coretex. It’s basically a case of legislating to the lowest common denominator. Apparently the FDA was worried that some folks would use all the pre-saturated sunscreen from the towelette on one side of their body and have none left over for the other side. To be fair, we all know every team has one of these guys (and if you don’t know who it is, it might be you).

The FDA was worried we wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a towelette that still has some sunscreen, and one that doesn’t. Thanks for saving us FDA. It’s my position the folks who can’t tell if they’ve got any sunscreen left on their towelette likely have bigger problems in life.

At the end of the day, OSHA mandates outside workers must be protected from all environmental hazards. And that certainly includes the sun. Sunscreen products like Sun X SPF 30 Broad Spectrum packets still are available to protect workers from sunburn in the short-term and skin cancer in the long-term."

When riding out to Tucson last month, the weather finally warmed up enough by NM to go with no jacket. Of course I forgot to pack the sunscreen. Took a while to find a store that sold some. Vampire grade, of course. I had gotten gas in the only town that hid away all their pharmacies. Finally found a Dollar Store for some SPF70 spray on. Note to spray finger and then wipe on face.

It's always good to carry sunscreen with you. My worst story about sunscreen is when we were out on a ride in TN and my wife thinks you need sunscreen on your face so on stop she put some on my face. Well we went on down the road and it was in the 90's and I started sweating a little and of course some got in my eyes. When it started of course I rubbed my eyes and as you can guess it burned like fire. It took me about a quarter mile to get pulled off the road and most of that was driving blind. My advise is not to put sunscreen on the forehead.. sweat and sunscreen in eyes bad thing.

l always carry a package of Suddora Headbands on bikes. Never had a problem with sweat running down my forehead. They do the job in hot conditions, especially slow traffic, and dry quickly in the wind. It is something I got into the habit doing from working outdoors for many a summers.

Don't forget to check out Consumer Reports on sunscreens. Many don't provide the protection they claim. I found out the hard way on a recent weeks ride. Had a tube of the Equate (Walmart branded) 100 spf stuff, that didn't perform. I still was lobster red at the end of the day.

CR did show some of the Equate as good, but I now have the Coppertone spf-50 Water Babies stuff, which was #3 on their list. Guess I'll find out if it works on an old man.....

But those towelettes look good, hafta check Amazon to see what they have.
